Telecom Lead Engineer

What are my responsibilities?

We are recruiting an experienced Telecoms Lead Engineer, capable of leading & supervising the Installation, Test, and Commissioning of telecom systems for the following disciplines for railway systems:

  1. Cybersecurity (preferable)

Experienced and capable of using relevant test equipment, understanding, verifying design requirements and BOQ, and producing FATs, SATs, ITPs and related test documents, test certificates, acceptable to current NR (Network Rail) and other prevailing standards.

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinate activities of subcontractors on project planning and especially with civil works activities; report regularly to the regional Telecom Engineering head and Project Management.
  2. Supervise and inspect all site telecommunications activities to ensure execution in accordance with the Project Schedule, Site Specific Work Plans, Approved Work Methods, Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Plans, and Approved for Construction Drawings.
  3. Perform field inspections to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures and approved work methods.
  4. Handover to commissioning using handover process/documentation and support the commissioning team to complete the testing phase.
  5. Analyze requirements and propose cost-effective solutions to the track lead engineer.
  6. Ensure that the design is compatible with health & safety standards.
  7. Coordinate with other entities (other ALSTOM activities/civil work partners) for the technical aspects of the interfaces, especially with civil works.
  8. Resolve technical open issues on site, from investigation to modification implementation and problem closure.
  9. Support and coordinate the Telecom activities for ongoing projects.
  10. Create/Support telecom architectures and solutions for tenders & projects in terms of Alstom systems needed.
  11. Ensure contact with the client and/or consortium representatives for the telecom sub-system definition.
  12. Ensure technology watch with the suppliers.
  13. Assist sourcing for telecom suppliers mapping and prepare compliance matrix for supplier solutions.
  14. Ensure support on normative aspects.
  15. Ensure design review application according to project milestones.
  16. Plan, execute, monitor and control Design, configuration, maintenance, test, and Commissioning activities for the telecommunication system according to the overall program schedule.
  17. Interface with Customer and Engineers on design and commissioning status.
  18. Maintain/Coordinate As-Built Documentation submissions.
  19. Deployment and sizing of networks (fiber optic transmission and other physical deployments).
  20. Network maintenance and monitoring (protocol analyzers, performance indicators, and quality of service).

Qualification needed for this job?

In this role, you serve as the Project Company’s senior technical engineer and advisor for all related work, services, tasks, activities, and actions related to the Telecommunications Systems.

You also act as a trainer to enhance the telecom engineering community for the Alstom AMECA region.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure (switches/routers/firewalls/media converters, etc.)
  • Knowledge of associated protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, LAN-WAN), routing principles (static & dynamic).
  • CCNA & CCNP certification is a plus.
  • Telecom Engineer, specialized with a minimum of 8 years' experience in telecom subsystems and interfaces (experience in railway systems is a plus).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including with third parties (clients).
  • Structured and organized with a hands-on approach.
  • Extensive working knowledge of complex network design, both wired and wireless.
  • Extensive experience with network architecture design.
  • Working knowledge of switching and routing protocols.
  • Working knowledge of wireless communications in demanding scenarios.
  • Prior experience managing medium-large sized projects and project teams.
  • Working knowledge of test and commissioning processes.
  • Detail-oriented with organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience in the railway signalling systems sector would be a plus.
