Job summary

North American Construction Group seeks a Site Trainer to support the Fort Hills site. You will ensure operational competency through practical and classroom training, mentoring, and evaluations, contributing to a safety-first culture on a major mining project.

Responsibilities include coordinating training, conducting equipment instruction, and maintaining onboarding logs. Strong English communication and prior mining training experience are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of operating experience in a mining environment.
  • 1+ years operating experience on excavators, tractors, graders, and haul trucks in a mining setting.
  • Experience coaching operational crews or supervising roles is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure personnel at the site complete required training for their positions (CBLs, Client training, SOP reviews, vendor training).
  • Conduct equipment training and competency evaluations; provide production and maintenance training as needed.
  • Follow up on operator issues (e.g., VIMS, Telematics) and provide coaching.
  • Implement and enforce the company training program at the site.
  • Ensure mentors deliver training per company standards.
  • Maintain onboarding logs and weekly crew designations; submit weekly reports.

Position Scope

We are seeking a Site Trainer to support our Fort Hills site. The position is responsible for ensuring operational competency training at the assigned site through practical training, classroom training, mentoring and evaluations. This is a great opportunity for a safety minded individual who has worked on a mining site before and enjoys working with a high performing and innovative team while making an impact.

Fort Hills

Shift:

9 days on 5 days off - 12 hour days

Transportation:

Transportation provided from town to site.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all applicable personnel on the assigned site have completed the required training requirements for their assigned position. This can include but is not limited to CBLs, Client training, SOP reviews and manufacturer specific training.
  • Conduct equipment training and complete competency evaluations. Provide production training as required. Assist in providing equipment training to maintenance.
  • Follow up on operator abuse issues (i.e. VIMS, Telematics), provide coaching and recommendations.
  • Ensure the company’s training program is implemented and followed at the assigned site.
  • Ensure equipment mentors are delivering training as per company standards.
  • Maintain onboarding log and update crew designations weekly where applicable.
  • Submit weekly reports on-time and complete, as requested.
  • Utilize the LMS for theory delivery, record keeping, and training reports.
Qualifications
  • 5 years of operating experience in a mining environment.
  • 1+ years of operating experience on large and small Excavator, Crawler Tractor, Motor Grader and Haul Truck in a mining environment.
  • Operating experience on shovel considered an asset. Operating experience on support equipment considered an asset.
  • 1+ years of operational crew coaching, Lead Hand or supervisory experience, or a combination of all three types of experience
  • Post secondary education considered an asset.
  • Registered Professional Trainer designation considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office application software and training application software (LMS).
  • Good organizational and communication skills, specifically written, verbal and public-speaking skills.
  • Experience with training adults.
  • Experience with program development.
  • Experience with computer software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Summary
  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Have experience as requested as mentioned above
  • Subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  • Undergo and successfully pass the following testing:
  • Breath Alcohol Test
  • Urine Drug Test
  • Fitness-to-Work Assessment
  • Audiometric Testing
  • Vision Screening
Shift, site, and start times are subject to change.

All successful candidates MUST provide the following items prior to confirmation of their start date:

  • OSSA, BSO or CSO Certification
  • Copy of Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Copy of recent Driver's Abstract
  • VOID cheque/direct deposit form
