Senior Development Engineer - Systems Safety

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Systems Safety engineering is a multi-disciplinary engineering field which requires strong analytical skills to find innovative engineering solutions to ensure safety of architectures and functions of vehicle systems. As a Senior Development Engineer - Systems Safety, you will be responsible for planning, coordination, and support of safety-related development projects in the areas of electric drive technology, chassis, and autonomous vehicles. Your expertise will be essential for the strategy development in the field of Functional Safety/SOTIF and coaching the safety engineers in the team.

• Involve in complete safety lifecycle development process from specifications to vehicle testing and validation.
• Reflect your system and domain knowledge to design safety architectures and specify the requirements of functions.
• Plan and coordinate safety activities across the project lifecycle to ensure compliance with ISO 26262, ISO 21448, and other relevant standards.
• Perform impact analysis, hazard analysis, and risk assessments to support the development of safety concepts and safety analyses (e.g., FMEA, FTA, DFA, STPA).
• Support the specification and implementation of requirements for safety-relevant functionalities, ensuring clarity and completeness for all parts of vehicle system design.
• Assure work products are properly documented, correctly stored, and revisions are managed and released in a timely manner.
• Facilitate, coordinate, and participate in assessments, audits, and technical reviews to verify compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
• Act as an interface to customers, suppliers, and internal teams/departments for project-related safety topics, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
• Develop test plans to verify and validate safety requirements, ensuring thorough and comprehensive testing.
• Guide and monitor safety engineers in their project safety activities, providing technical support and oversight.
• Contribute to R&D activities by providing safety expertise and supporting innovation in safety-related technologies and processes.
• Work with AVL Global experts to keep up with the latest technologies and industry trends.

YOUR PROFILE:

• BSc. in Electronics, Controls, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Automotive engineering, or other related area and preferably with MSc. or PhD. degrees.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in R&D and product development projects.
• Relevant functional safety certifications.
• Fluent speaking and excellent writing skills in English (German would be a plus).
• Strong management skills and the ability to effectively communicate.
• Strong documenting, presenting, and reporting skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Well organized and able to manage multiple tasks.
• Willingness to frequent and long-term travel abroad.

Good understanding of the following topics:

• Functional Safety (ISO 26262), E/E architectures, and automotive development processes.
• Safety concept (FSC, TSC) development, safety analysis (FMEA, FTA), system integration testing, and V&V of safety relevant functions.
• Powertrain, Chassis, HV Battery, ADAS/AD.
• Cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434, UNR155), SOTIF (ISO 21448).
• PTC Integrity / Polarion / DOORS.
