Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience building scalable, distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java (Java 17+) and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and operating event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka or similar messaging systems.
• Deep expertise in relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including schema design, indexing, transactions, and query optimization.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals: concurrency, caching (Redis, Caffeine), eventual consistency, and fault tolerance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead architectural discussions, evaluate trade-offs, and drive engineering decisions across teams.
• Passion for writing clean, testable, well-documented, maintainable code with high test coverage.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

StartupHeroes is looking for Senior Backend Software Engineers to design, build, and scale high-throughput backend services and improve the performance and reliability of our systems as we rapidly support products and organizations. You will play a key role in designing, building, and scaling the high-throughput systems that power our online grocery and food fulfillment operations. The team operates at the heart of our delivery experience, connecting store operations, field couriers, and central logistics to deliver reliable, low-latency experiences for thousands of couriers and millions of customers for one of Turkey's leading retail platforms.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead the architectural design, implementation, and scaling of core backend services and APIs for our high-volume delivery platform.
• Brainstorm and collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, Backend, and Frontend Engineers to conceptualize, design, and deliver impactful product features.
• Actively own critical systems end-to-end, defining their technical roadmap, SLAs, and long-term health while continuously improving operational excellence.
• Mentor mid and junior engineers, foster engineering talent, and conduct in-depth, constructive code reviews.
• Continuously raise the engineering bar by introducing best practices, better tooling, testing standards, and development processes.
• Diagnose and resolve complex production incidents, perform post-mortem analysis, and build resilient systems that prevent recurring failures.
• Solve challenging algorithmic and distributed systems problems with a strong focus on high availability, data consistency, and operational cost efficiency.

What You Should Have

• Completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience building scalable, distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java (preferably Java 17+) and deep hands-on expertise with the Spring Boot framework.
• Proven experience designing and operating event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka or similar messaging systems.
• Deep expertise in relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including complex schema design, indexing strategies, transaction management, and query optimization.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals: concurrency, caching strategies (Redis, Caffeine), eventual consistency, and fault tolerance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical architecture discussions, evaluate trade-offs, and drive sound engineering decisions across teams.
• Passion for writing clean, testable, well-documented, and maintainable code with high test coverage.
• Strong communication and leadership skills — able to articulate complex technical architectures clearly to both engineers and business stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Advanced performance profiling, memory leak diagnosis, and JVM tuning experience.
• Familiarity with modern observability standards (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) and defining SLIs/SLOs.
• Domain experience in on-demand delivery, quick commerce, logistics, order fulfillment, routing, or courier dispatch operations.
• Familiarity with CI/CD automation pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC).
