Job summary

AppNation is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to lead the design, development, and evolution of our AI-powered backend systems supporting millions of users. You will build reliable APIs, data-intensive services, and asynchronous workflows, while mentoring peers and raising engineering standards.

You will own backend features end-to-end, collaborating with mobile, AI, product, and infra teams, and will work with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure to deliver robust, scalable

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of backend fundamentals: HTTP, REST APIs, auth, concurrency, networking, security.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL: schema design, indexing, migrations, transactions.
• Strong experience with Redis: caching and in-memory data patterns.
• Hands-on experience designing distributed systems for scalability and reliability.
• Production experience with asynchronous/event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub).
• Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience building AI-powered backend capabilities and integrating with LLMs/AI APIs.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development tools while ensuring correctness and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Own features from design through testing, deployment, and production validation.
• Design distributed/workflow systems using message brokers and event-driven patterns.
• Integrate backend with AI platforms and LLMs for product capabilities.
• Model relational data using PostgreSQL/MySQL; optimize queries and migrations.
• Utilize Redis for caching, coordination, and rate limiting.
• Implement robust testing (unit/integration) and end-to-end tests.
• Investigate production issues using logs/metrics/traces and improve reliability.
• Contribute to architecture reviews, code reviews, and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with mobile/AI/product teams and drive design decisions.
• Operate with Docker; understand Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
