Job summary

Genesis HealthCare System in the United States seeks a Phlebotomist Technician to perform phlebotomy, specimen handling, and related clerical duties within the Phlebotomy department.

You will work varied shifts, support quality patient care, and adhere to CAP/HFAP/OSHA/HIPAA standards while delivering compassionate service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, or current high school student with proof of completed phlebotomy training.
  • Valid CPR certification or obtained within one year of employment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex and changing working environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates excellence with listening, verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • May perform phlebotomy. Able to demonstrate proper collection techniques in accordance with the laboratory collection services policy and procedure manual.
  • Maintains knowledge of laboratory tests and appropriate computer ordering codes.
  • Process specimens maintaining specimen integrity according to individual test requirements.
  • Maintains proficient telecommunication operations, which includes a wireless remote communication system.
  • Maintains proficiency in record management including specimen chain of custody, patient release of information forms, consent forms, and filing reference lab reports.
  • Stays in compliance with all regulatory agencies including CAP, HFAP, OSHA, and HIPPA.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Maintains the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.

Overview of Position:

The Phlebotomist Technician performs a range of laboratory duties, which may include phlebotomy, specimen handling, specimen test ordering, telecommunication, supply maintenance, and some clerical duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • May perform phlebotomy. Able to demonstrate proper collection techniques in accordance with the laboratory collection services policy and procedure manual.
  • Maintains knowledge of laboratory tests and appropriate computer ordering codes.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Works in an environment that requires special blood and body fluid safety requirements.
  • Employee may be required to travel to multiple locations including out patient draw centers and nursing homes.
  • Employee must be able to answer telephone calls, respond to and initiate pages through a wireless communication system, use personal computers and other business machines, all which require the ability to apply finger dexterity.
  • Individual must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time along with the ability to bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to periodically rotate shifts and regular days off. All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts as required.
