Role Context

The role sits within the Scientific Affairs team, inside the Global Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Microbiology Team, based in Sarigazi, Turkey. The Ice Cream business in the METSA Region is large and successful. The Ice Cream Regional Design Center (RDC) in Sarigazi/Istanbul drives innovative ice cream products across brands such as Magnum, Cornetto and Ben & Jerry\'s, and collaborates with country teams, marketing and regulatory authorities.

The Global RD&I Microbiology team delivers up-front microbiological solutions to support brand innovation programmes and business operations, integrating microbiology with processing knowledge to develop safe and stable products.

Job Purpose

As an integral member of the microbiology team, you will support new product and process development in RD&I and provide microbiological support to global business operations.

Main Responsibilities Include
  • Ensure microbiological safety of Ready-To-Eat ingredients by collaborating with Global/Regional Microbiologists, Suppliers, RD&I project leaders, Quality, Procurement and Ingredient Specialists; align on procedures, review decontamination processes and validation reports; provide expert guidance for decontamination and validation procedures; make decisions on RTE ingredient approval or rejection.
  • Support the METSA Business Unit with RD&I microbiological expertise and ensure compliance with Global Microbiology requirements through collaboration with the Global RD&I Microbiology team.
  • Conduct microbiological risk assessments for RD&I support (product development, RD&I discussions) and Supply Chain support (incidents, process control).
  • Ensure microbiologically safe and stable products and processes through a Safe-by-Design approach.
  • Partner with the Global team to identify and adapt new methodologies, processes and procedures enabling future-fit microbiological data science.
  • Provide technical input for documents and training materials to maintain product and process design knowledge.
  • Design and supervise laboratory project work, in-house or with third-party labs.
What You Need To Succeed
  • Background (minimum BSc) in Microbiology, Applied Biology, Food Safety, or a related science.
  • Preference for experience in Microbiology related to the Food Industry; understanding of food decontamination (thermal and non-thermal). Molecular biology (DNA sequencing interpretation) is an advantage.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Turkish; ability to manage complex stakeholder discussions.
  • Ability to learn and work in a fast-paced environment with varying priorities and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with a flexible \'we can\' attitude, able to work independently and defend science-based knowledge with stakeholders.
