Project Overview

Nicholas O’Dwyer is providing Technical Assistance and Supervision services for a key water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the Gaziantep, Adıyaman, and Kilis provinces in Turkey. The programme includes the design, construction supervision, and operational planning of drinking water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and network rehabilitation. The work places a strong emphasis on sustainability, institutional capacity building, and resilience.

About The Role

Nicholas O'Dwyer is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to support the design review and construction supervision of water and wastewater infrastructure in seismic-prone regions of Türkiye. This role will focus on evaluating subsurface conditions, foundation recommendations, slope stability, and geotechnical risks associated with treatment plants, reservoirs, and linear infrastructure.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
  • As a Geotechnical Engineer, working in collaboration as part of a larger team is essential for this role.
  • Will hold overall responsibility for the interpretation of geotechnical investigation results and advising on design implications.
  • Take ownership and lead on technical matters relating to soil-structure interaction, ground improvement, and foundation selection.
  • Responsible for reviewing contractor submissions on piling, retaining structures, dewatering, and soil remediation.
  • Support with coordination of geotechnical inputs across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring integration with structural and civil elements.
  • Responsibility to maintain regular updates and communicate on project progress, both internally and externally with the client.
  • Responsible to support and guide junior technical staff and review third-party reports.
  • Maintaining a culture of continuous improvements across all aspects of the working environment and projects.
  • To ensure maximum flexibility and to reflect the Company's evolving needs, additional tasks and responsibilities will form part of this role as it evolves.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
  • A 3rd level degree, qualified in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years' professional experience and minimum of 3 years in geotechnical investigation, foundation design, and soil-structure interaction for Water or Wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in infrastructure projects in seismic zones is highly desirable.
  • Experience in EU or other international funded projects.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis tools (e.g., Plaxis, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W).
  • Proven ability and interest to support and develop junior staff in their development.
  • Competent in office packages, Microsoft, excel PowerPoint etc.
  • Good time management skills, with the ability to prioritise work and manage many tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent clear and concise communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.
  • You will have an agile and "Can Do" mindset.
