General Purpose of Role

Provides engineering oversight to a group of employees in multiple engineering disciplines. This is an operational role responsible for leading team members, their ongoing development, and their assignment on projects in compliance with company requirements.

Business Development Support

Assists in business development activities by maintaining personal profiles and resumes, tracking capabilities, and addressing future customer needs. Builds positive relationships with external parties such as customers, suppliers, and contractors. May be involved in networking, negotiations, strategic alliances, and cost-saving efforts. Supports proposals by developing engineering strategies, reviewing costs, and presenting to customers.

Business Operations

Participates in budgeting and manages engineering operations within budget. Controls staffing levels, organizational structure, and monitors project discipline structures. Manages engineering software licensing and costs. Creates and maintains engineering guidelines. Ensures mentoring and training requirements are met. Manages employee performance reviews and coverage of activities when team members leave. Ensures all activities meet health, safety, environmental, and security standards.

Technical Competency

Owns engineering technical competency and quality programs. Ensures adherence to company processes, engineering practices, regulations, and customer specifications. Supports standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates. Ensures team understanding of technical, legal, and customer requirements. Oversees discipline checking and peer reviews.

Project Execution

Ensures project requirements are met through engineering guidelines and resource management. Participates in project planning and strategy. Drives innovative solutions and addresses sequencing issues. Works with Project Management Teams to resolve staffing, scope, or progress issues. Reviews and approves work by Discipline Managers.

Qualifications, Accreditation, Training (Essential)

Leadership and project execution training. Active license with a local engineering body where required by law.

Training in risk management or quality.

Job Specific Knowledge / Experience (Essential)

Strong understanding of cross-discipline work, interfaces, and sequencing. Knowledge of engineering governance, project execution, and fiscal management. Skilled in estimating costs and proposal writing. Experienced in project management, risk management, quality, procurement, or construction execution.
