Job Purpose and Impact

The Process Safety Specialist is a subject matter authority working closely with maintenance and process safety teams to ensure compliance with environmental and process safety regulations and resource conservation in the plant. You will lead, at low-to-medium complex facilities, or assist in leading at high complex facilities, the implementation, execution, and maintenance of the process safety management systems. You will be responsible for understanding and applying safe, compliant operational practices, demonstrating compliance with company policies, work processes, programs, and standards. Additionally, you will facilitate continuous improvement in resource conservation and develop and maintain energy and utility KPI reporting to support operations.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Ensure facility adherence to governmental process safety management standards while implementing and maintaining all aspects of process safety management for the site.
  2. Identify process safety management capital projects and collaborate with the capital management team to prioritize and implement them.
  3. Localize and integrate company and legally required work processes, programs, and controls into site-level operating procedures, tools, and work instructions to standardize front-line processes and monitor, analyze, and improve process safety performance.
  4. Analyze resource usage trends, assist in optimizing systems for peak efficiency, and develop reporting to ensure consistent monitoring and early warning indicators.
  5. Assist in training and developing behavioral-based conservation, process safety, and utility processes for technicians.
  6. Plan and schedule maintenance of plant utility systems using reliability models and predictive technologies in collaboration with maintenance leadership.
  7. Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, escalating more complex issues appropriately.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related fields.
  • Knowledge of governmental industry regulations.
  • Familiarity with hazardous chemical handling procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with computer maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of operating systems used to build custom solutions for energy management, operational flexibility, and connectivity technologies.
  • Working knowledge of programming and automation system integration.
  • Experience with computer-aided design software.
  • Experience with regulated process safety management.
  • Experience supervising industrial contractors.
