Role Overview

As a Back End Developer at Carla, you will work on the core backend systems that power our global travel and mobility platform. You will contribute to services used across search, pricing, booking, payments, supplier integrations, customer support flows, and internal operations.

This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, ownership, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams. You will collaborate with product managers, mobile engineers, data, operations, and customer experience teams to build solutions that improve customer experience and business performance.

You will be involved in designing and developing APIs, improving system performance, maintaining production services, and contributing to technical decisions that help Carla scale. You will work in a fast-moving environment where your code can reach production quickly and create a visible impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services that support Carla’s mobile apps, web platform, and internal tools.
• Build and improve APIs used for car rental search, pricing, booking, payments, supplier integrations, and operational workflows.
• Write clean, maintainable, testable, and production-ready code.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, mobile engineers, QA, data, operations, and customer experience teams.
• Contribute to technical planning, solution design, development, testing, release, and post-launch improvements.
• Improve system performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.
• Work with databases, caching systems, third-party APIs, and cloud-based services.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Monitor production systems, investigate issues, and support continuous improvement of backend services.
• Take ownership of assigned projects and deliver high-quality solutions in a fast-paced product-driven environment.

What We Seek in You

• 2+ years of backend development experience in technology-driven companies.
• Strong experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
• Experience with Spring Boot or similar backend frameworks.
• Good understanding of REST APIs, relational databases, distributed systems, and software architecture.
• Experience working with databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle, release processes, debugging, and production support.
• Experience working closely with product managers, mobile engineers, QA, and other cross-functional teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to take ownership.
• Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with changing priorities.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
• Passion for building reliable products and improving customer experience through technology.
• Experience with marketplace, travel, mobility, e-commerce, or consumer-facing products is a plus.
