Job description

Qualification and Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control (welding works) in the marine industry
  • Possess certificates such as AWS Certified Welding Inspector / CSWIP 3.2
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of codes such as ASME, AWS D1.1, BS EN, and ISO standards
  • Experience communicating with clients and third-party surveyors
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and qualify WPS & PQR according to codes, standards, and project requirements; submit for client and third-party approval
  • Lead welding supervisors, inspectors, foremen, and welders to ensure optimal welding performance according to codes and project requirements
  • Review mill certificates, welding electrodes, and consumables to ensure compliance with procedures and project requirements; maintain a summary of all WPS related to yard and project
  • Review reports such as welding parameter reports, PWHT, PMI, mechanical tests, ferrite, hardness, hydro, leak, weight, pull, dimension, visual, painting, TSA, galvanizing, and NDT to ensure compliance
  • Collaborate with QA/QC on documentation preparation including ITP, work instructions, welding maps, NDT maps, manufacturing data, and non-conformance reports
  • Orient staff on revisions and changes in codes and standards (ASME, API, AWS, BS, EN, client specifications), ensuring implementation into procedures and QMS
  • Ensure work complies with project quality standards and procedures outlined in the Quality Plan
  • Maintain QMS conformance and customer satisfaction regarding quality requirements
  • Issue Corrective Action Requests and NCRs; investigate problems, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Proficient in preparing WPS and PQR for various materials including SS, SDSS, CS, low alloy steel, aluminum, Inconel 625
  • Knowledge of different welding processes such as SMAW, SAW, GTAW, GMAW (MIG/MAG), FCAW
  • Select suitable welding joints and processes to ensure drawings are implementable in workshop or site
  • Liaise with third-party inspectors, class surveyors, and auditors for ISO & API internal audits
  • Ensure proper welding management and supervision
  • Improve welding processes and techniques using available technology for optimal quality and efficiency
  • Monitor welders’ performance to ensure capability and quality
  • Coordinate NDE requirements with the welding schedule and location
  • Record and monitor weld rejection rates
  • Conduct root cause analysis for PQR failures
  • Develop welding techniques aligned with production requirements
  • Prepare and maintain documents such as weld traceability procedures, consumable procedures, welder qualification records, pre-heat procedures, repair procedures, and control statistics
