Wastewater Process Optimization Engineer (AOP/MBR)

Job summary

OAKTREE CONSULTING seeks a seasoned Wastewater Process Engineer to lead daily operations across physico-chemical, AOP, and biological treatment trains in Singapore. You will monitor performance, troubleshoot, and optimise unit operations to meet turbidity, COD, BOD, and toxicity targets.

Plan jar tests, bench-scale trials and pilot studies, propose process improvements, write SOPs and technical reports, and train technicians.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in Environmental Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in wastewater treatment.
• Hands-on experience with AOP systems (Fenton, electrochemical, ozone, UV).
• Hands-on experience with biological treatment (anaerobic + aerobic, MBR).
• Ability to independently perform process evaluation, troubleshooting and parameter optimization.
• Strong grasp of wastewater quality parameters and their impact on treatment performance.
• Good communication with operations, laboratory and management teams.

Responsibilities

• Run, monitor and optimise daily operations.
• Operate physico-chemical units: Lamella clarifier, DAF and CAF.
• Operate AOP units: Fenton, micro-electrolysis, electro-catalytic oxidation, catalytic ozonation, UV photocatalytic oxidation.
• Operate biological systems: UASB, CSTR, activated sludge and MBR.
• Operate tertiary polishing: MBR and RO.
• Adjust operating parameters against influent variation in COD, BOD, SS, oil & grease and toxicity.
• Plan and execute jar tests, bench-scale trials and pilot studies to verify feasibility.
• Resolve effluent non-compliance, biological inhibition, membrane fouling and process instability.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Write and maintain SOPs, process parameter sheets and technical reports.
• Guide technicians and lab staff on sampling, testing and on-site process adjustment.
• Support NEA inspections, customer audits and technical reviews.
• Ensure safe operation of chemical, AOP and biological systems per EHS requirements.
• Participate in risk assessments (RA) and management of change (MOC).
