Job summary

SGX Group is seeking a Vice President, Software Engineer to lead engineering across multiple teams in a complex, security-sensitive environment. You will set direction, strengthen discipline and own design, delivery and operation of services.

In this mission-critical role, you will balance resilience, security and performance, driving architectural decisions, risk trade-offs and continuous improvement while mentoring teams and partnering with product and platform leaders.

The opportunity

As Vice President, Software Engineer, you will lead engineering across multiple teams and domains. You will set direction, strengthen engineering discipline and take accountability for how services are designed, delivered, operated and improved.

The challenge is to increase agility without compromising resilience, security or operational reliability. In a mission-critical environment, engineering decisions have real consequences, and you will need to make sound trade-offs across architecture, delivery, risk and business priorities.

There are strong foundations to build on, and a significant amount still to do. The engineering model, tooling and ways of working will keep changing. If you want to inherit a mature engineering organisation, this is not that one yet. It will suit someone who enjoys complexity, is comfortable leading through change and wants to build capability that lasts.

The Software Engineering team

Software Engineering builds, runs and evolves the applications and platforms behind SGX Group's business and market infrastructure.

The team works closely with product, architecture, platform, security and delivery colleagues to turn business priorities into secure, resilient and scalable services. Its remit spans the full engineering lifecycle, from technical design and delivery through to production ownership and continuous improvement.

Our next phase is about strengthening engineering ownership, modernising platforms and practices and building consistency across teams without flattening the different needs of each business domain.

What you will do

Own the outcome

• Lead engineering with accountability for delivery quality, security, resilience and production performance.
• Translate business and technology strategy into clear engineering plans, partnering with product, project and programme leaders to align priorities, resources, delivery milestones and investment decisions.
• Partner with product, architecture, platform, and delivery leaders to shape solutions and manage trade-offs, rather than simply executing against requirements.

Set the engineering standard

• Set technical direction and strengthen architecture, engineering standards and solution governance across your remit.
• Evolve platforms through lifecycle planning and steady work on technical debt, using modern design practices where they earn their place.
• Improve SDLC, DevOps, site reliability engineering, automation, testing, observability and service ownership so that delivery is dependable and sustainable.

Build the function

• • Build engineering teams through hiring, coaching, succession planning and honest performance conversations.
  • Raise accountability and technical judgement across the teams you lead.
  • Lead through major incidents and engage senior stakeholders on strategic priorities, trade-offs, delivery progress, risk and investment decisions.

What we are looking for

Essentials

• Experience leading software engineering across multiple teams, platforms or business domains in a complex, high-availability, security-sensitive or regulated enterprise environment.
• Strong engineering judgement, with the ability to balance architectural quality, resilience, security, delivery and business priorities.
• Experience setting technical direction, leading architecture reviews and evolving platforms while managing technical debt and operational risk.
• A solid grounding in software and platform engineering, including microservices, event-driven systems, API design, resilience patterns and observability.
• Experience with DevOps, site reliability engineering, automation, testing discipline, end-to-end service ownership and incident leadership.
• Strong people and stakeholder leadership, from team development and hiring through to working with senior business and technology leaders.
• You should be comfortable with Kubernetes, AWS EKS, PagerDuty, CI/CD, modern observability tools and infrastructure as code.
