Job summary

Great Eastern is seeking a senior Marine Underwriter to lead the Marine section, develop sales and underwriting strategies, and drive profitable growth. The role includes underwriting Marine Cargo/Hull, reviewing renewals, and coordinating trainings for intermediaries and partners, with a focus on meeting yearly sales and profitability budgets.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years’ working experience in underwriting or related operations in MNC or local entities.
• Experience and knowledge in underwriting Marine Cargo/Hull business.
• Strong business-focused analysis with ability to deliver results.
• Solid business acumen and meticulous risk assessment.
• Excellent organization and planning skills.
• Proven leadership capability and people management skills.
• Resourceful, flexible and responsive in dealing with intermediaries and partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and overall management of the Marine section to ensure smooth operation.

• Underwrite and accept all marine cargo, cargo liabilities and marine hull business within underwriting authority and guidelines.
• Arrange and/or conduct training for intermediaries and business partners.
• Review renewal terms and follow up on policy renewal to achieve good retention of business.
• Participate in credit control and premium management.
• Participate in ad-hoc projects assigned by Senior Management.

Job description

Responsible for the overall business development, risk acceptance and management of Marine portfolio.

• Provide leadership and overall management of the Marine section to ensure smooth operation
• Develop and implement sales and underwriting strategies for the section to achieve profitable growth
• Achieve yearly sales and profitability budget
• Underwrite and accept all marine cargo, cargo liabilities and marine hull business in accordance with the assigned underwriting authority limits and within the company’s underwriting guidelines and treaty terms. To seek treaty clearance when necessary
• Responsible for the placement of facultative reinsurance in accordance with the company’s reinsurance security guidelines
• Review renewal terms and follow up on policy renewal before expiry to achieve good retention of business
• Arrange and/or conduct training for intermediaries and business partners
• Participate in credit control and premium management
• Participate in any ad-hoc projects assigned by Senior Management
• Related University or Professional Qualifications
• At least 10 years’ working experience in underwriting or related operation jobs in MNC or local entities
• Experience and knowledge in underwriting Marine Cargo/Hull business
