Job description

Job Purpose

The position involves managing the credit portfolio for project finance transactions across the APAC region, with focus on relationship management with Japanese borrowers, sponsors, and governmental agencies (such as ECAs and DFIs) from a Structured Finance perspective.

Additionally, the role requires coordination with various departments, including the SMBC Head Office in Tokyo, to facilitate internal reporting and engage in consultations regarding credit costs, tax implications, and accounting matters as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Conduct the portfolio management, including credit monitoring, trigger reports, waivers, and amendments, for the existing borrowers of the department.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with Japanese-related borrowers, sponsors, and Japanese Governmental Agencies in APAC.
  3. Liaise and co-work with relevant departments and SMBC group members to conduct internal reporting and have consultations on credit cost, tax, and accounting matters as necessary.
  4. Strategic planning for business development in the structured finance area in APAC.
  5. Support ad-hoc tasks as requested by senior staff within the department.
  6. Foster knowledge sharing among team members and inspire others to enhance the team's overall performance.

Job Requirements

  1. Over 7 years of banking sector experience and at least 5 years of experience in project finance.
  2. At least 1 year of experience in credit portfolio management and/or agent role in structured finance.
  3. Fluent in spoken and written Japanese is desirable as this role requires discussions with Japanese government agencies/clients and making presentations in Japanese.
  4. Deep sector knowledge in oil & gas and new energy markets.
  5. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and financial model analysis.
  6. University graduate with a strong academic background.
  7. A collaborative team player who is also independent and self-motivated.
  8. Possesses strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively, manage expectations, and meet deadlines, demonstrating high work ethics, integrity, and commitment.
  9. Knowledge of Japanese Banking Law and banking regulations.
