Job description

  • To incubate startup teams towards successful outcomes within GRIP, facilitating their journey from concept to launch
  • This role also supports the overall operational effectiveness of the programme.

Startup Pipeline Formation:

Ecosystem Integration

Actively identify and establish strategic partnerships with key ecosystem players, corporates, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance the resources available and foster high-quality startup formations.

Technology Scouting

Build and maintain relationships with university Principal Investigators (PIs) and scientists to scout technologies with commercial potential and identify aspiring entrepreneurs.

Market and Research Insights

Engage with market and ecosystem stakeholders to stay abreast of the latest trends, bringing this knowledge back to the university to help direct research and identify potential technological applications.

Cohesive Collaboration

Collaborate extensively with other units within the NUS Enterprise ecosystem to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to venture creation, influencing research directions and technology development.

Portfolio Management

  • Opportunity Identification: Assist GRIP-invested ventures in identifying and assessing potential business opportunities, partnerships, and investments
  • Operational Support: Guide startups throughout the critical early stages of their operations, including company formation, product development, strategic hiring, marketing strategies, and regulatory compliance.

Investment and Growth

Facilitate fundraising efforts and help startups secure key accounts and make strategic hires, mapping out a clear pathway for growth and investment.

Startup Incubation:

Guidance and Support

Provide direct guidance and support to startup teams from concept through to launch, focusing on developing validated problem-solution fits and constructing robust business models.

Real-World Validation

Work closely with founders to validate their business concepts in real-world environments, assisting in developing scalable business plans and securing initial funding.

Strategic Insights

Offer strategic insights and guidance to help startup teams navigate complex business landscapes, tailoring advice to meet market demands and regulatory requirements.

Skills Transfer

Transfer knowledge and entrepreneurial expertise to founders, enhancing their capabilities and ensuring they acquire essential skills throughout the incubation process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science & engineering or a related field. Master's degree or PhD a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years in science-based technology business, including roles in company management, venture capital, or startup founder.
  • First-hand experience in startup environments is a must. Founder experience a big plus
  • A deep understanding of the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries is essential. Experience in medical devices and climate technology is advantageous
  • Familiarity with the latest technologies, trends, and market dynamics is essential
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively
  • Passion for innovation and entrepreneurship, with a willingness to take calculated risks
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, adapting quickly to changes and challenges
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Commitment to ethical practices and integrity in business dealings.
