    As an Underwriting Specialist at Better, you will play a crucial role in reviewing mortgage loan applications, assessing applicants" creditworthiness, and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations. Your expertise will be essential in facilitating loan approvals for qualified borrowers while minimizing risks for the lender.Your responsibilities will include thoroughly reviewing mortgage loan applications to confirm the presence of all necessary documentation, verifying applicant information such as income, employment history, credit history, and assets, and analyzing credit reports and scores to determine creditworthiness. Additionally, you will assess the risk associated with each loan application based on the applicant's financial profile.It is imperative for you to ensure that all loans adhere to federal and state regulations, as well as lender-specific guidelines. Staying updated on mortgage regulations and guidelines is crucial to maintaining compliance and identifying and reporting any potential fraud or misrepresentation in loan applications.Your role will involve effective communication with loan officers, borrowers, and other stakeholders to gather additional information or clarify discrepancies. Maintaining organized records of all loan files and documentation, making informed decisions regarding loan recommendations, and collaborating with other departments for a seamless loan closing process are also key aspects of your responsibilities.To qualify for this role, you should hold a Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field and possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in US mortgage underwriting.
