Job Summary:

The Bond Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, assessing, and approving bond applications from clients, ensuring the risk is adequately managed, and determining the pricing and terms of the bond. The individual will work closely with clients, legal, and finance teams to assess creditworthiness, manage risks, and underwrite various types of bonds, including municipal, corporate, and surety bonds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, calibrate and approve various types of bond applications, including but not limited to, surety bonds and guarantees.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to determine appropriate bond terms, conditions, and pricing.
  • Evaluate market conditions and economic factors that may impact bond performance and pricing.
  • Communicate with clients, brokers, and agents to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions.
  • Determine and manage the risk exposure for each bond application.
  • Conduct research on sectors to structure programmes for speed-to-market and fit-to-market underwriting.
  • Review and enhance underwriting guidelines and company policies if need be.
  • Provide guidance to clients and internal stakeholders regarding bond structures and underwriting processes.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • ACII or Diploma in General Insurance
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in bond underwriting, credit analysis, or related financial fields.
  • Strong knowledge of bond markets and risk management principles.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to bond underwriting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex financial information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex terms to clients and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling and industry-standard underwriting software.
