Job description

Job Summary:

Deliver the highest quality of intervention programmes and individual sessions with youth offenders to keep them meaningfully engaged and aid them to reintegrate back into society.

Trainers’ scope of work includes interventions such as applying Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing techniques, lecture presentations, facilitation of small group discussions and role-plays.

Primary Duties:

  • Provide group-based and individual interventions for youth offenders, addressing key reintegration issues and equipping them with life-skills

  • Identify potential destabilisers / stressors and equip participants with the life-skills to manage them

  • Tailor individualised intervention plans to address individual participant’s needs and targeted relapse prevention, focusing on reasons for recall

  • Enhance participant motivation towards change and equip them with knowledge and skills in managing challenges faced in the community

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to increase reintegration success, when required

  • Handle all learner queries and feedback in a tactful and professional manner

  • Provide suggestions on improving training curriculum according to learner feedback

  • Maintain knowledge and training content in line with changes in the field and to the highest standard

  • Maintain excellent professional relationships with participants and key stakeholders at all times

Secondary Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with internal / project requirements

  • Ensure learner completion of feedback survey at the end of each session

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Passionate about working with youth offenders and helping them successfully reintegrate into society

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Conversant in at least one other local language other than English (i.e. Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin)

  • Willing and capable of learning and delivering AKG’s suite of training programmes using provided course materials

  • Adhere to all AKG values and represent our business in a professional manner at all times

  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and respect when working with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability and willingness to analyse participant feedback for appropriate action on areas of improvement

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Possess at least a Degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or equivalent

  • Be familiar with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing techniques

Have at least 2 years of working experience in:

· Working with youth

· Conducting Group Counselling

  • Ex-offender applicants who have stayed offence free for at least 5 years are strongly preferred

Secondary Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with internal / project requirements

  • Ensure learner completion of feedback survey at the end of each session

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Passionate about working with ex-offenders and helping them successfully reintegrate into society

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Conversant in at least one other local language other than English (i.e. Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin) as job nature requires to serve Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin-speaking clients.

  • Willing and capable of learning and delivering AKG’s suite of training programmes using provided course materials

  • Adhere to all AKG values and represent our business in a professional manner at all times

  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and respect when working with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability and willingness to analyse participant feedback for appropriate action on areas of improvement
