Job summary

A leading company in fertilizer trading is seeking a Fertilizer Trader to support the establishment of its trading desk in RtMI. This role involves engaging with industry players, conducting market research, and managing customer relationships. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in finance, excellent communication skills in English and Chinese, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of work experience in finance, ideally in equity research or corporate finance.
  • Experience working with corporate clients, preferably in China.
  • Native/Fluent English and Native Chinese speakers are preferred.

  • Conduct market research and provide daily/weekly market reports.
  • Assist in executing derivative transactions and maintain broker relationships.

Job description

Scope

The candidate’s role is to provide support to the team in establishing the Fertilizer Trade business in RtMI and to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the new desk. The candidate would be reporting to the Senior Fertilizer Trading Manager, Corporate Development.


Responsibilities


1. Physical Fertilizer Trading (30%)

  • Develop relationships with fertilizer producers in China and Southeast Asia (SEA) to identify trading opportunities.
  • Maintain customer relationships and manage existing business, including contract flows.
  • Understand customer’s needs and develop solutions and strategies to address them effectively.
  • Gain a detailed understanding of the fertilizer supply chain, including identifying challenges and concerns of customers across the value chain.
  • Acquire strong knowledge of the raw material value in use, and the production process of intermediate and end products.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the fertilizer raw material market and product market fundamentals, including trade flows.

2. Business Development (30%)

  • Engage with industry players, consultants and develop leads for strategic, structured investment and trading opportunities
  • Conduct due diligence of assets and potential opportunities
  • Work with corporate counterparties to understand their business and build financial models to evaluate assets and opportunities
  • Work with internal colleagues to develop structured transaction solutions
  • Travel regularly to meet with market participants and to industry conferences
  • Conduct site visits of mine, end users for due diligence purposes
  • Prepare explanation material, including reports and presentations to management and clients

3. Market Research (20%)

  • Build fundamental supply and demand model for fertilizer products
  • Build up database of trade flow, mine supply and end demand
  • Conduct research on including pricing, supply/demand forecasting, VIU, cost models, working
  • Provide daily/weekly market reports
  • Write monthly market analysis to management and senior management
  • Prepare presentations for management on market conditions
  • Conduct market analysis based on robust information and networks, to effectively provide market reports to the stakeholders.
  • Develop multiple analytical models as well as databases by capturing information and insights from daily activities.

4. Book Management (20%)

  • Act as secondary support for the Senior Manager on fertilizer books.
  • Execute derivatives execution when required.
  • Contribute insights into cargo pricing considerations.
  • Assist in managing derivatives operations.
  • Maintain broker counterparty relationships.
  • Provide analytical support to inform trading decisions.
  • Assist in the management and refinement of the physical pricing database and models.

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business and international trade or relevant major.
  • 3-5 Years of work experience in the finance industry, ideally in equity research, sales or corporate finance roles
  • Experience working with corporate clients, preferably in China
  • Good communication skills (Native/Fluent English and Native Chinese)
  • Strong work ethics, ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects / deals.
  • Collaborates well with others and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, systematic and organized.

Environment / Working Conditions

  • The candidate is based in an Office Environment but will be expected to travel often for business purposes.
  • The candidate will be required to manage a few projects at one time.
  • The candidate may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of employees.
