Job Purpose
Manage end-to-end trade finance operations, including financial risk management, negotiation with banks and Financial Institutions (FIs), and optimal use of trade facilities to support commodity trading activities. The role works closely with traders, operations, and financial partners to secure financing, manage risks, and ensure regulatory compliance. Also responsible for sourcing new banks/FIs, developing financing strategies, and supporting group-level investment or holding activities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage issuance, amendment, and negotiation of LCs, Standby LCs, Bank Guarantees, and Trust Receipts.
- Ensure trade documents comply with UCP 600, ISBP, and relevant standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with banks, FIs, and alternative financiers.
- Source new banking partners and financing options to enhance liquidity and financing options.
- Negotiate trade finance terms, costs, and documentation with banks and relevant parties.
- Monitor financial risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Oversee utilization, renewal, and compliance of trade facilities with accurate reporting to management.
- Work with traders and operations on financing needs and cash flow planning.
- Develop and support group investments and holding company initiatives as needed.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, KYC, internal controls, and audits.
- Identify and implement technology solutions for operational efficiency.
- Provide training / guidance to team members on trade finance and financial risk practices.
- Represent the company at external events and with financial partners.
- Carry out any other duties to support organizational and team objectives.
Key Requirements & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Banking, Business, or related field
- At least 5 years’ trade finance experience, preferably in commodity trading
- Strong knowledge of trade finance instruments, UCP 600, ISBP, and shipping documents
- Proven experience with banks, financial institutions, and alternative financiers
- Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving and relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance, and financial risk management
- Proficiency in relevant software and systems.
- Able to work independently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Fluency in English and Mandarin (required to communicate with overseas offices)
