Job summary

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay in Singapore invites applications for a Programmer (Theatre) to plan, manage and execute arts programmes and seasons as part of the centre's calendar of festivals, series and projects.

The successful candidate will negotiate with artists and managers, collaborate with Marketing, Development and Operations teams, supervise project staff, and stay abreast of trends in performing arts to broaden audiences and enhance the centre's programming offering.

Qualifications

• Degree holder or training in arts management or theatre production.
• For Performing Arts programmers, some form of arts training (music, dance, theatre) is advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in performing or visual arts programmes.
• Strong knowledge of international developments and trends in various art forms; familiarity with Singapore's arts scene.
• Strong organisational and interpersonal skills; ability to work in large teams.
• Ability to conceptualise and realise projects.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage and execute arts programmes and seasons as part of Esplanade’s calendar of festivals, series and projects.
• Negotiate with artists, managers/producers/agents; act as main Esplanade contact for negotiations, planning and execution.
• Coordinate with Marketing & Development on publicity, sponsorship, box office and revenue generation.
• Liaise with Operations (Technical Production, Logistics) to ensure smooth execution of programmes.
• Supervise artist liaison staff, project assistants and interns on assigned projects.
• Keep abreast of trends in performing arts locally and internationally.
• Budget for arts activities and track costs/expenditure within budgets.
• Assist in developing and implementing SOPs for presentation and commissioning of arts performances.
• Support local arts groups or artists in presenting their work and promoting audience development.
