Job description

What To Expect

Tesla Electronics Test and Automation Group (ETAG) is the main point of contact to ensure the highest quality vehicle, silicon, and robotics electronics for our customers. Our mission is to develop test automation equipment, architect software automation frameworks, and provide hardware/software/data infrastructure for Tesla electronics communities worldwide.

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to provide on-site support for manufacturing tests of low-voltage electronic hardware. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and debugging testers, analyzing issues on both tester and product sides, and collaborating with test engineers to maintain manufacturing tests at contract manufacturers globally. Additionally, the candidate will work closely with Failure Analysis (FA) engineers to investigate product failures, serving as the primary point of contact for initial failure analysis and response.

This team focuses on mechanical, electrical, and software design of reliable testers and tools for all production vehicles. We seek a skilled and motivated Manufacturing Test Engineer to join us. As a key team member, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement test solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. Project timelines can be as short as a few weeks, producing equipment to test and assist in vehicle assembly at the forefront of Tesla’s innovation. This is an opportunity to be part of the "machine that builds the machine."

What You'll Do
  1. Maintain and optimize existing automated test equipment and software for low-voltage electronic hardware, particularly RF products, ensuring production efficiency and quality.
  2. Troubleshoot and resolve test-related issues, collaborating with teams to identify and implement corrective actions.
  3. Support the maintenance of production test specifications, schematics, and technical documentation for electronic hardware.
  4. Develop and implement test process improvements, including software and hardware updates, to adapt to changing product requirements.
  5. Collaborate with suppliers to resolve test issues, provide technical support, and ensure compliance with test standards.
  6. Analyze and address test equipment failures through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  7. Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards, maintaining accurate records of test results and equipment maintenance.
What You'll Bring
  1. Proficiency in Python development on Linux platforms, with experience troubleshooting and optimizing codebases.
  2. Hands-on experience in debugging and repairing electronic circuits and systems, with a solid understanding of electronic principles.
  3. Experience with RF test equipment and techniques, including spectrum analysis and RF signal processing, ensuring RF standards compliance.
  4. Proven problem-solving skills using methodologies like Lean Six Sigma and GRR.
  5. In-depth knowledge of electrical product testing and manufacturing processes.
  6. Ability to balance technical requirements with cost constraints, and to monitor and improve hardware/software frameworks for efficiency and quality.
  7. Willingness to travel up to 50% across the APAC region for on-site support.
Extra Points
  • Engineering experience in EE/CE or similar with 2+ years developing testers or supporting harsh production environments.
  • Experience with LabView and TestStand.
  • Ability to rework surface mount components.
  • Knowledge of PCBA design and embedded firmware development (ARM Cortex).
  • Exposure to various test systems, production machinery, and electronics, including hobbyist devices.
  • Familiarity with Altium, SolidWorks, CATIA, and AutoCAD.
