Reporting Relationship
Operator, Bench reports to the Operations Lead.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate various hand tools such as hammers, files, dremel, vibro-peen tools, drills, presses, low temperature ovens, pullers, and hand grinders to perform operations like blending, chasing threads, deburring, angle checking, coldworking metals, masking, and braze application.
- Read and interpret specification manuals, blueprints, templates, and layouts for product specifications, tooling instructions, tolerances, and dimensions. Translate instructions into actions.
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and sub-assemblies using hand and power tools.
- Manually align components for assembly and secure parts with bolts, screws, dowels, or rivets.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Inspect the quality and accuracy of work performed.
- Set up and operate test equipment (e.g., pressure testing).
- Perform daily 5S organization and machine preventive maintenance using approved checklists.
- Perform simple troubleshooting on machines; resolve technical issues when appropriate.
- Maintain tooling and fixtures, segregate worn-out tools, and report to the Production Lead for action.
- Participate in audits, inspections, new product development, and continuous process improvements.
- Cross-train in other skills and seek endorsement to support production needs.
- Support production by moving between assignments utilizing multiple skills.
- Participate in cross-training of colleagues as required.
- Observe all safety protocols and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
- Familiarity with company instructions, processes, rework procedures, OEM manuals, and MSDS labels.
- Experience with production management systems and internal control systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted approximately 25% of the workday.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Specialized training in machine shop practices.
