Role: Technician (Part-Time), School of 3D Design

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), University of the Arts Singapore, an esteemed arts institution with a global reputation, seeks a functionally strong Technician at the School of 3D Design.

The School of 3D Design fosters design and creative thinking while sharpening technical capabilities for their learners, while undergoing an enriching and intensive journey of design education, developing key skills and learning about technologies, trends and their impact on design.

In this pivotal role, you will support students in developing their creative expression, technical skills, and innovative practices within our industry-focused, practice-led curriculum. This includes hands-on studio work, industry projects, and enriching workshops, all within a holistic and integrative learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role involves managing the daily operations and maintenance of workshop machinery, including CNC machines, table saws, and radial arm saws, ensuring all equipment remains in optimal working condition. You will play a key role in supervising students on their projects, providing technical guidance and support in the construction and prototyping of their designs using the workshop's tools and equipment.

In addition, you will be responsible for conducting induction sessions to educate users on the proper use of machines and facilities while ensuring strict adherence to workshop rules and safety regulations. Your support will extend to guiding students as they experiment and produce both scaled and full-sized prototypes, fostering their technical skills in a safe and productive environment.

This role also involves maintaining workshop safety, cleanliness, and readiness is a critical aspect of this role. You will also collaborate with lecturers to prepare materials for classes and conduct demonstrations to support student learning. Beyond these responsibilities, you will assist in planning and organizing various activities, such as industry collaborations, exhibitions, talks, and events like Open House.


Requirements

You should minimally possess a Diploma qualification in a related discipline and/or industry experience. Fresh Graduates are welcome to apply as well.

To excel in this role, you should also have a strong technical background, including proficiency in fabrication and working in the workshop.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities, multitask effectively, and consistently meet deadlines.

You should be resourceful and proactive in addressing issues, possess good organisational and coordination skills, and be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
