Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead technical Superintendents during emergencies or critical situations, providing guidance on appropriate responses and ensuring effective communication and coordination within the team.
  2. Oversee the technical management of the fleet, including daily maintenance and repair operations, budgeting, survey schedules, vessel assessments, inspections, and docking.
  3. Ensure assigned vessels are technically operational and managed according to company requirements.
  4. Involve technical Superintendents in strategic discussions to leverage their insights on technical operations, fleet performance, and future challenges, fostering ownership and accountability within the technical department.
  5. Ensure that Technical Superintendents provide and compile detailed reports after dry docking, including summaries of work performed, operational budgets, and actual expenditures within 30 days post-docking.
  6. Identify and source technical and operational supplies for vessels, ensuring the most economical rates.
  7. Evaluate dry-docking and repair quotes, and select shipyards for maintenance and repair work.
  8. Conduct monthly reviews of logs and ensure the technical team adheres to inspection schedules for vessels.
  9. Monitor the technical status of vessels, ensuring compliance with class certification and survey requirements.
  10. Supervise contractors involved in vessel repairs and maintenance.
  11. Manage budgeting and cost control for ship spares and docking needs.
  12. Perform technical compliance audits and investigations into defects or failures to ensure conformance with regulations.
  13. Lead initiatives to improve safety practices within the team, ensuring technical superintendents prioritize safety and communicate its importance to the crew.
  14. Collaborate with the HSE Management team to implement QHSE systems and policies within the division.
  15. Regularly review recommended codes, guidelines, and standards to ensure compliance with Quality & Safety Management standards.
  16. Maintain vessels’ zero loss-time accident record and report all incidents and near misses to prevent potential issues.
  17. Undertake additional technical-related tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  1. COC Class 1 with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  2. Strong leadership skills.
  3. Excellent organizational, communication, and hands-on skills.
  4. Independent, resourceful, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  5. Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to technical troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  6. Familiarity with ISM and ISPS regulations is essential.
  7. Willingness to travel at short notice when required.
