Job summary

GovTech Singapore is building BookingSG, a multi-tenant SaaS for government appointment and resource scheduling. We seek a Technical Lead / Engineering Manager to own the engineering roadmap, drive architecture, and coach a cross-functional squad to deliver high-impact features at scale.

You will partner with Product, Design, and Infra to ensure security, reliability, and rapid delivery, while exploring GenAI-enhanced workflows for administrative efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of experience engineering, scaling, and delivering production-grade web apps.
• Experience as Technical Lead or Engineering Manager in agile environments.

The Government Digital Products (GDP) Team aims to spearhead the digital transformation of government. Our team designs and develops software applications that help government agencies to better serve the needs of the people of Singapore.

At the Engagement and Case Management Programme (ECMP), our products are the primary touchpoints through which residents interact with the Singapore Government. We design and develop a suite of high-impact software applications including FileSG, Signify, PersonaliseSG, CrowdTask SG, and BookingSG.

The Challenge: Elevating BookingSG

BookingSG is a comprehensive Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution designed to unify, simplify, and manage appointments and resource scheduling across Whole-of-Government (WOG) agencies. Far from a simple calendar app, BookingSG is a highly customizable, multi-tenant platform built on a versatile architecture featuring Calendaring, Availability, Rostering, and Booking (CARB) capabilities.

Trusted by 50+ government agencies across 60+ distinct use cases, our platform handles over 1.5 million transactions—and we are just getting started. Whether it's high-volume facility bookings or complex citizen appointment routing, our mission is to turn fragmented legacy systems into elegant, out-of-the-box digital booking experiences at a national scale.

We are looking for a Technical Lead / Engineering Manager to spearhead the next evolution of this platform. You will take full engineering ownership of a nimble, cross-functional squad — balancing enterprise architecture and high-velocity shipping with hands-on coaching to level up our engineering practices.

You will work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering partners to solve complex problems, deliver high-impact features, and continuously improve how the team builds and operates software.

[What you will be working on]

Lead and Nurture a High-Performing Squad.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a cross-functional engineering team (comprising internal engineers, vendors, or external contributors) to deliver high-quality platform capabilities.
• Provide pragmatic, hands-on technical guidance to unblock complex engineering bottlenecks while fostering autonomy.
• Cultivate a culture of strong technical ownership and continuous improvement. Support engineers' career growth through regular coaching, actionable technical feedback, and modern engineering practices.

Drive Technical Strategy and Platform Evolution

• Define and evolve the technical architecture of BookingSG, balancing short-term feature speed with long-term platform sustainability and enterprise scalability standards.
• Evaluate and implement technical solutions that meet strict Whole-of-Government security and compliance standards.
• Actively identify and mitigate technical risks, maintaining a healthy balance between shipping new product capabilities and reducing technical debt.
• Partner with Product Managers, UX Designers, Infrastructure, and Platform teams to align on product roadmap execution, system dependencies, and cross-team technical initiatives.

Elevate Engineering & Operational Excellence

• Champion best practices in system design, code quality, automated testing, and comprehensive code/architecture reviews.
• Drive strong operational ownership. Champion robust CI/CD pipelines, containerization, infrastructure-as-code, and comprehensive test automation.
• Utilize engineering and operational metrics (e.g., system reliability, performance, delivery flow) to continuously optimize team’s effectiveness and system stability.
• Establish scalable engineering processes such as design reviews, architecture discussions, and effective code reviews.
• Keep the platform cutting-edge. Guide the team in pragmatically evaluating and integrating GenAI for automated routing and intelligent administrative workflows.

[What we are looking for]

Experience

• 5–7+ years of experience engineering, scaling, and delivering production-grade web applications, with a heavy emphasis on robust backend systems.
• Demonstrated experience operating as a Technical Lead or Engineering Manager within an agile environment. Proven ability to align engineering squads and manage vendor deliverables or hybrid teams is a strong plus.
• A solid track record of designing, architecting, and operating scalable distributed systems, ideally within multi-tenant SaaS platforms or enterprise-grade applications.

Technical Skills

• Deep, production-tested expertise in Node.js and TypeScript / Go.
• Strong hands-on experience building web applications and robust APIs using React or Next.js.
• Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS preferred), container technologies (Docker), and establishing or operating modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Deep commitment to comprehensive automated testing practices (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and structured architectural reviews.
• Exposure to or a strong interest in GenAI technologies and incorporating AI-powered capabilities into product features is highly advantageous.

• Strong technical judgment with the ability to make practical architectural trade-offs between rapid product innovation, system stability, and strict security guardrails.
• An excellent communicator who can seamlessly translate complex technical challenges into clear business contexts for product, design, and agency stakeholders.

• Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and inherently curious about optimizing both software architecture and team execution processes.
