Job summary

KIRA is seeking a Lead Engineer to take technical ownership of complex products and systems, moving between architecture and implementation. This remote role supports a global team and requires strong technical leadership across backend, frontend, APIs, databases and cloud infrastructure.

You will design scalable systems, guide engineers, review code, and drive major initiatives from idea to production while maintaining a hands-on approach to coding and problem solving.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background with production-systems experience.
• Expertise in backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases or cloud infrastructure.
• Strong system design and architecture skills for high-scale systems.
• Hands-on coding ability and willingness to stay close to code.
• Proven track record leading major engineering projects.
• Comfortable reviewing code and debugging in production.
• Ability to explain complex decisions clearly and influence teams.
• Strong product sense and link between technical decisions and business outcomes.
• Able to work fast with ambiguity and take ownership end-to-end.
• Judgment on when to move quickly vs invest in deeper engineering work.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and execution of major products and initiatives.
• Design scalable, reliable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases and infra.
• Stay hands-on with coding, prototyping, reviews and production problem-solving.
• Make architecture decisions balancing speed, scalability, reliability and maintainability.
• Break problems into clear engineering solutions and execution plans.
• Set a high bar for code quality, testing, security and observability.
• Review designs and code from others and provide actionable feedback.
• Mentor engineers and strengthen technical capability across the team.
• Identify risks and bottlenecks before they become critical.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, design and AI teams to ship high-quality products quickly.
• Improve tooling and automation to increase team velocity.
• Own systems beyond release: monitor production, investigate incidents, resolve root causes.
