Job Responsibilities:
Quality Teaching and Learning
• Prepare semestral goals and progress reports and discuss with parents in the case conference
• Plan and deliver interesting and meaningful lessons (in all areas of curriculum) to engage students
• Assess and report learning outcomes through Individual Education Plan (IEP)/ Individual Transition Plan (ITP)
• Conduct other group activities for students including hydrotherapy or swimming
• Manage behavior using appropriate behavior intervention strategies
• Be responsible for all matters pertaining to the assigned class or school activities
• Provide support and guidance to teacher assistant in the areas of teaching and learning
• Provide support and guidance to class warden in the areas of ADL/Life Skills
• Provide support to untrained or beginning teachers in the area of teaching and learning CCA
• Plan and conduct CCA
• Maintain records of students’ attendance and progress in the CCA Contribution to school
• Assist in the coordination of events and committees Collaboration
• Work closely and effectively with parents/ caregivers, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), other AWWA services and volunteers
• Establish an enriching and safe learning environment (within and beyond own classroom) that enhance student learning
• Report any accident or injury, that may occur to students, to the Principal and submit the necessary report Other expectations
• To attend relevant courses to upgrade his/her skills and submit reports
• To share responsibilities for the upkeep, maintenance and inventory of all equipment, teaching aids etc in the classroom
• To share innovative ideas with colleagues at department level and/or school level
• To attend meetings, case discussion, home visits and other relevant staff development training
Qualifications
• Min. GCE ‘A’ Levels or Polytechnic Diploma with a credit in English at ‘O’ Levels or Trained Special Education Teacher Minimum Years of Relevant Experience
• At least 2 years of relevant working experience.
• Experience working with persons with disabilities is an added advantage Knowledge/Skills
• Ability to co-lead a group of teachers and/or teacher assistants
• Ability to contribute to group dynamics Attributes (functional or leadership competencies)
