Job summary

GovTech Singapore seeks a high-caliber Systems Engineer to architect, secure, and scale our connected ecosystem across on-device, edge, and cloud platforms. You will drive end-to-end architecture and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient solutions for Singapore's Smart Nation initiatives.

You will apply AI-assisted development tools, ensure security and governance, and lead design reviews while balancing latency, cost, and architectural longevity to deliver

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, software development, or IoT/OT deployments.
• Proficiency across multiple environments with Go, C++, Java; scripting in Python/TypeScript; frontend/backend frameworks.
• Hands-on experience interfacing with hardware devices, sensors, and edge processing.
• Comfort using AI coding tools and LLM APIs within software architectures.
• Cloud-native architectures, microservices, containerization, and serverless infra.
• Security-first mindset across hardware provisioning to cloud IAM and data privacy.
• Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical systems experience.

What you will be working on

We are seeking a high-caliber, multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to architect, build, and secure our next-generation connected ecosystem. This role requires vast technical breadth, operating at the absolute intersection of hardware interfaces, edge intelligence, and cloud-native architecture. You are the systems thread that strings complex, end-to-end solutions together. From low-level device data ingestion to scalable cloud backends, driving prototypes into resilient, production-grade deployments. You will leverage modern AI-assisted development tools to rapidly generate, validate, and stitch solutions together at a high velocity. This position requires a strategic systems thinker capable of evaluating emerging technologies through a practical lens—intelligently weighing technical debt, infrastructure constraints, and architectural longevity against immediate delivery goals.

What You’ll Do

• End-to-End Architecture & Edge Orchestration
• Lead the design, integration, and lifecycle strategy of resilient, scalable, and secure systems spanning physical IoT/OT devices, edge gateways, and multi-tenant cloud platforms.
• Design low-latency, edge-compute workflows that process telemetry and sensor events locally to trigger real-time hardware actuators, relays, and automated control mechanisms.
• Optimize data ingestion pipelines to ensure high availability, sub-second responsiveness, and operational stability under heavy transactional loads.
• System Orchestration & AI-Assisted Development
• Act as a technical force multiplier by utilizing AI-assisted engineering tools to rapidly develop, audit, and integrate code across the full stack—from low-level edge gateway scripts to backend cloud microservices and frontend workflows.
• Focus heavily on architectural validation, code review, and systemic integrity, ensuring that AI-generated software components are performant, secure, and seamlessly connected.
• Evaluate data processing frameworks objectively, intelligently weighing when to use traditional software logic, edge ML, or cloud-hosted AI models based on cost, compute constraints, and latency.
• Hardware Interfacing & OT Protocols
• Design and implement robust hardware-to-software interfaces utilizing serial, GPIO, USB, and network connections.
• Orchestrate data ingestion using industrial and automation communication standards, ensuring seamless connectivity between sensory peripherals and core software layers.
• Oversee and troubleshoot basic electronic configurations (e.g., wiring, power distribution, signal validation) during prototyping and field deployment.
• DevOps, Security & Governance
• Ensure all architectural designs comply with strict data privacy regulations, data residency requirements, and cloud governance guidelines.

What we are looking for

• Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of professional experience in systems engineering, software development, or IoT/OT deployments, with a proven track record of architecting and shipping full-stack solutions.
• Polyglot & Systems Literacy: Deep technical literacy across multiple environments, with the ability to confidently navigate and audit system/OOP languages (e.g., Go, C++, Java), scripting (Python, TypeScript), and standard frontend/backend application frameworks.
• Hardware & Sensor Competency: Hands‑on experience interfacing software with physical devices, hardware relays, camera arrays, or sensor infrastructure. Ability to handle feature extraction or signal processing at the edge is a significant plus.
• Pragmatic AI Tools Fluency: Comfort and proficiency using modern AI coding tools and LLM APIs effectively within software architectures without over‑engineering solutions.
• Cloud Architecture Expertise: Advanced expertise in cloud‑native application architectures, microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and serverless infrastructure optimized for secure, high‑volume data ingestion.
• Security-First Mindset: Strong understanding of end‑to‑end security vectors, from physical device provisioning and hardware security modules (HSMs) to cloud IAM, network security, and global data privacy laws.
• Education & Soft Skills: Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical systems experience. Exceptional systems‑thinking capability with the ability to communicate complex technical abstractions clearly to cross‑functional stakeholders.
