Brief Job Description: The Senior System Engineer is responsible for providing operational support to system infrastructure, supporting clients, resolving technical issues, and conducting root cause analysis. He/she is also required to manage change requests through change request processes, including requirement gathering, impact analysis, design, testing, and integration of changes into the existing environment.
Project Delivery
- Gather business and/or application requirements related to infrastructure, conduct impact analysis, and suggest design/re-design to integrate changes into the existing environment.
- Test systems according to specifications and service levels. Perform system programming and configuration where relevant.
- Manage system changes through established change request processes and provide status reports to relevant parties.
- Respond promptly to incidents, investigate, and provide temporary or permanent resolutions. Provide timely status updates.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement proactive measures. Monitor the effectiveness of these measures.
- Monitor and measure system performance and availability proactively.
- Implement corrective actions to improve performance and availability.
- Monitor service levels (e.g., service requests, system availability), document, and maintain system configurations. Provide regular reports.
- Execute service continuity measures, such as backup/restore procedures and disaster recovery plan dry runs, to ensure business continuity.
- Ensure ICT systems management adheres to ISO20000, ISO27001, ITIL, ITSM, and related best practices and methodologies (e.g., change, release, incident, problem, and configuration management).
- Manage budgets, resources, and schedules for system implementation and operations, ensuring deliverables meet client requirements and quality standards.
- Establish facility management standards and best practices to ensure operational consistency across teams.
Customer / Team Management
- Provide technical advice related to systems to customers or project teams. Lead and assist in developing bids and proposals.
- Manage support resources to prioritize tasks and schedule resources, ensuring service quality.
- Coordinate with other project teams to monitor, secure, and optimize service operations.
Deployment Phase
- Participate in designing, building, and testing infrastructure for Exchange, Lync, Ironport, and related peripherals for messaging and collaboration services.
- Participate in designing, building, and testing infrastructure for Redhat, Google Apps, VMWare, GSA, and related peripherals for cloud-based messaging and collaboration services.
- Manage user migrations from old to new infrastructure, ensuring successful transition.
Production Support
- Ensure smooth operation of infrastructure services, managing vendors for hardware/software replacements, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Be on standby for major incident escalations, ensuring incidents are handled according to SOPs and promptly addressed.
