Job summary

ByteDance's System Technologies and Engineering team is seeking an experienced OS System Engineer to develop the Linux OS for datacenter servers and cloud deployments. You will collaborate with a global team to enhance OS design, QA, delivery, deployment, and maintenance systems.

Key responsibilities include migrating drivers to ByteDance kernel, performing kernel/code reviews, and building OS QA/test platforms, image builds, and deployment workflows.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of experience in Linux OS development or related fields.
• Familiarity with computer architecture and server development lifecycle.
• Proficiency in at least one of C/C++, Go, Python, Java.

Responsibilities

• Migrate device drivers and OS components to adopt ByteDance kernel and Linux OS distribution.
• Participate in regular code reviews for Linux Kernel and OS component changes.
• Design and develop OS QA/test systems, image build platforms, and deployment/maintenance systems.
• Serve as primary escalation point for end users, coordinating with internal teams to resolve issues promptly.

Responsibilities

About the Team
The System Technologies and Engineering team is looking for experienced Operation System System Engineer to develop the Linux Operating System (OS) in adoption to all kinds of servers in within the datacenter. This individual will work with the global team to develop, maintain, and improve the OS and the relative quality testing, delivery, deployment and maintenance systems, both for bare metal servers, and also third party cloud servers. The team's goal is to ensure our operating systems keep updated to meet the requirements of hardware evolution and business goals.

• - Migrate device drivers and OS key components from Linux upstream or vendor's codebase to adopt Bytedance kernel and Linux OS distribution;


• - Participate in regular code review for Linux Kernel and OS key component code change;


• - Take part in conducting the system design and development of the following systems: OS and Kernel quality assurance test system, OS image build platform, and OS deployment and operation maintenance system;


• - Serve as the primary escalation point for end users regarding issues within the OS, coordinating across all internal teams to ensure issue resolution is completed promptly;

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• - Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related majors;


• - At least 5+ years of experience in Linux operating system development or in similar fields;


• - Familiar with Computer Architecture, and server development life cycle;


• - Proficient in at least one or more general purpose programming such as C/C++, Go, Python, Java;

Preferred Qualifications

• - Familiar with Linux/Unix operating system architecture, Linux Kernel mechanism, Linux Kernel programming, systemd, glibc;
