Role and Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain database server configuration standards.
- Manage disk partitioning, including volume ID, size, and purpose, as well as file directory structures.
- Set standards for server hardware configuration.
- Define storage system configuration standards.
- Perform logical and physical database design, creation, modification, or removal; provide technical consultancy on database software usage; advise application developers on optimizing database access codes.
- Enhance and enforce database standards and procedures to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor and analyze disk storage usage of all production databases; promptly alert users of potential issues due to data growth.
- Generate monthly reports on database utilization for application developers, guiding necessary actions.
- Conduct weekly database health checks to ensure data integrity and proper functioning.
- Perform data patching to correct errors as needed.
- Carry out quarterly database maintenance tasks following industry best practices.
- Schedule maintenance of clustered systems after office hours and weekends, maintaining server detachment during maintenance to avoid impact.
- Manage fail-over processes manually if automatic clustering fails, including server shutdown and network disconnection.
- Develop and implement backup strategies, manage tape inventory and movements.
- Manage batch jobs and scripts, ensuring successful execution and immediate troubleshooting of failures.
- Perform data backup, archiving, and quarterly recoverability tests; document procedures and results for reporting.
- Handle daily data backup, recovery, and media management at the Data Centre, coordinating with relevant parties for BCP updates and DR drills.
- Assist application owners with data migration within three working days of request.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- 3-5 years of System Administration experience.
- Skills in Active Directory, ITIL, VMware, Windows & Linux servers, VxRail, scripting, Microsoft Azure & M365, RAID & SAN.
- Preferred certifications: MCSE, VMware, ITILv3, RHEL, M365 & Azure administrator.
- Experience with IT service management best practices.
- Preferred certifications: Veeam Certified Engineer, Database administration certifications.
