Job summary

PRIMESTAFF MANAGEMENT SERVICES PTE LTD in Singapore seeks a dedicated specialist to support students with special needs in MOE mainstream schools. You will provide in-class support, remediation, and IEP implementation, and collaborate with teachers and parents to tailor education.

Responsibilities include setting up SEN-friendly classrooms, preparing learning resources, and coordinating with external professionals to monitor progress and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Special Education or equivalent.
• 3 years of MOE mainstream school experience supporting SEN students.
• Ability to support students with/suspected of SEN.
• 3 years of experience in conducting structured dyslexia intervention programmes.
• Ability to conduct structured dyslexia intervention programmes or similar.

• Consult teachers and parents to facilitate understanding of students' needs and supports.
• Set up and maintain SEN-friendly classrooms and school environments.
• Prepare teaching resources for students (e.g., visuals, differentiated worksheets).
• Provide skills training (e.g., organizational skills, managing changes).
• Provide peer training and support and coordinate with external professionals.
• Maintain records on SEN students and participate in case conferences.

Job Scope

• Provision of withdrawal support, specialized remediation, and implementation of Individual Education Plans.
• Provision of in-class support for special needs students in areas such as (but not limited to):
  reminding and prompting the student to stay on-task, pay attention to teachers and participating in classroom activities;
  helping the student to follow classroom routines;
  withdrawing the student for time out if he becomes disruptive or stressed during lessons and providing means to calm him/her down;
  helping the student to understand lesson content using various means (e.g. visual aides, and to complete work assigned);
  helping to communicate the student’s needs to the teachers;

• Provide consultation to teachers and parents to facilitate better understanding of the students’ needs and how to support them.
• Set up and maintenance of special needs-friendly classroom/school environments.
• Preparation of teaching and learning resources for use with students (e.g. visual prompts for mild ASD students, differentiated worksheets for students with dyslexia).
• Provision of skills training (e.g. organisational skills, managing anger, handling changes, queuing up, handwriting skills).
• Provision of peer training and support (e.g. setting up circles of friends).
• Provision of feedback to teachers and parents on the needs and progress of the special needs students.
• Collaboration with external professionals/agencies and special schools in the support of special needs students.
• Co-ordination and contribution to case conferences in schools.
• Set up and maintenance of records on special needs students.
• Conduct pre-orientation for students with ASD to help them familiarize with the school environment and the new changes around the school (eg. Change of classroom, change of class name and teachers).
• Trained in administration of progress monitoring tools.

Requirements

• Diploma in Special Education or equivalent
• 3 years of similar working experience in MOE mainstream schools to support students with/ suspected of SEN
• Ability to support students with/ suspected of SEN
• 3 years of experience in conducting structured dyslexia intervention programmes or similar
• Ability to conduct structured dyslexia intervention programmes or similar
