DESIGNATION : Supervising Editor/Senior Editor (South Asia), CNA TV

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Supervising Editor (International Desk) in identifying and shaping major news and current affairs in India and the wider South Asia region.
  • Ensure a steady supply of original, value-added, and impactful stories from India-based correspondents that also meet the highest editorial standards.
  • Monitor news developments in India and the wider South Asia region, and provide prompt, concise, and accurate summaries to guide editorial decisions.
  • Exercise sound judgment in identifying possible content from news developments that will interest CNA's Asian and global audiences.
  • Strong ability to edit standard-length (two-to-three minutes) and feature-length (five-to-10 minutes) news scripts for TV news.
  • Ability to assemble standard-length and feature-length video packages for TV news.
  • Provide suggestions for the planning of major events and guide foreign correspondents during their assignments, from day-to-day deliverables to breaking news.
  • Hold regular discussions with correspondents, flagging any bureau issues and training needs to senior editors.
  • Stay on top of India-related news developments in the Asia-Pacific region and globally; provide prompt, concise, and accurate updates to guide editorial decisions.
  • Exercise sound judgment in identifying possible story ideas from news developments that will be interesting and impactful for CNA's audience, with our core objective of helping people ‘Understand Asia' and our drive to report on global developments with Asian perspectives.
  • Build up a reliable network of government officials, businesspeople, private-sector professionals, and analysts; work with CNA's existing partners in India.
  • Contribute to CNA's efforts in adopting new technology and social media tools.
  • Assist in managing bureau operations and personnel / contractors in accordance with requirements set out by Mediacorp.
  • Identify and spearhead editorial projects that can be entered for regional and international media awards.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 10 years of editorial experience, with TV the preferred medium and prior experience reporting on India a plus.
  • Prior supervisory experience in India.
  • A news junkie with a keen interest in the news and current affairs agenda in India and across Asia.
  • Native-level proficiency in English, with fluency in local languages such as Kannada and Hindi a plus.
  • Outstanding editing and writing skills.
  • Strong network of contacts in India and the country's tech sector.
  • A sound understanding of geopolitical sensitivities, and awareness of potential red lines.
  • An independent operator with solid interpersonal skills who can also be a strong team player and work with other platforms (e.g., digital and radio).
  • Prior experience in working with AI and social media tools a plus.
  • Prepared to work irregular shifts, including on weekends and public holidays.
  • This position is based in Singapore, with occasional opportunities to travel for work.
