Job summary

Amazon Asia-Pacific Resources Private Limited (Singapore) is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join the Field Services Engineering team. You will understand customer demand and deliver efficient, cost-effective, resilient structural designs for AWS Data Centers.

You will lead multi-disciplinary design efforts, travel within APJC as needed (up to 40%), and collaborate with internal teams to ensure safety, compliance, and on-time project delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities including data centers.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings and specs.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for Singapore region.

Responsibilities

• Provide full life-cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.
• Serve as go-to engineering resource for your region when technical advice is needed.
• Create, review and release structural design documents and RFPs.
• Lead external consultants and coordinate with internal teams.
• Travel up to 40% within APJC region.

The Structural Engineer in Field Services Engineering, Civil Structural and Architectural (FSE-CSA) team has the ability to understand the customer demand as well as the technology & business opportunities that exist in order to achieve the organization’s goals. You understand key problems, and propose and analyze multiple solutions to produce the most efficient, cost effective, resilient, and scalable structural designs/remediations achievable.

Key job responsibilities

As a Structural Engineer, You Will Provide Full Life-cycle Support To AWS Data Centers From Design Inception Through Site Improvement And Maintenance. You Will Be The ‘go To’ Engineering Resource For Your Region When Technical Advice Is Needed, And Will Use Your Subject Matter Expertise To

• Work with a team of multi-disciplinary professionals on a wide variety of conceptual design, build, and retrofit projects at existing Data Center
• Visit sites to observe site specific issues and develop structural solutions to overcome challenges.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in projects requiring structural inputs.
• Create, review and release structural design (Request for Proposals ) RFPs.
• Manage external structural design consultants through the audit, design and implementation of a variety of projects while coordinating with internal engineering, construction and other stakeholder teams.

This role is based in Singapore and is part of the APJC (Asia, Pacific, Japan, China) team, the successful candidate will lead and support projects throughout the APJC region, with particular focus in the India Region. Successful candidates may also need to travel to other APJC Availability Zones for project support to the local execution team (40% travel expected) .

A day in the life

Amazon has a global presence; therefore 30% to 40% travel will be necessary. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary with short notice. Support could consist of auditing/inspecting data centers, working on international teams and could require developing schematic and design document packages for both global future and existing sites. In this role you will need the ability and willingness to travel for site walks and field observations internationally/domestically with short notice.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
• 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer License
• Experience as a resident engineer or hands-on design consultant
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing
