Lumilens is seeking an experienced engineer to own wafer-level test equipment lifecycle, qualification, and uptime in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will drive selection, installation, qualification, and ramp-up of probers, handlers, and related tooling.
The role requires hands-on expertise in wafer-level testing equipment, proactive maintenance, and cross-functional collaboration with WLT Operations, Process Engineering, and suppliers to ensure high uptime and optimal yield.
At Lumilens, we are building the essential photonics infrastructure that will drive tomorrow’s AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is ushering in a new era of computing that is faster, cooler, and dramatically more efficient. We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who have built and scaled some of the industry’s most transformative technologies.
This is a critical technical role responsible for the lifecycle management, qualification, performance, and operational excellence of wafer-level testing equipment across Lumilens’ manufacturing operations. You will serve as the equipment owner and subject matter expert for wafer probing, test handling, and associated wafer-level test equipment, driving equipment selection, installation, qualification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with semiconductor wafer-level testing equipment and thrives on improving equipment reliability, availability, and capability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Equipment Lifecycle Management: Lead the evaluation, selection, procurement, installation, qualification, and ramp-up of wafer-level testing equipment and associated infrastructure.
Wafer-Level Test Equipment Ownership: Serve as the subject matter expert and equipment owner for wafer probers, wafer handling systems, test interfaces, probe cards, handlers, and associated test equipment and automation systems.
Equipment Buy-off & Qualification: Develop and execute equipment qualification plans, including installation qualification, operational qualification, performance qualification, and manufacturing readiness activities.
Equipment Uptime & Availability: Drive high equipment availability and utilization by proactively identifying equipment-related constraints and minimizing unscheduled downtime.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Establish and implement effective preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime to ensure consistent operational efficiency & yield, and extend equipment life.
Equipment Capability & Optimization: Optimize equipment performance, capability, and utilization to support wafer-level testing requirements, production throughput, and manufacturing ramp.
Equipment Process Integration: Work closely with WLT Operations/Process Engineering to ensure equipment capability and performance meet test process requirements and production specifications.
Equipment Data & Performance Monitoring: Establish and monitor equipment performance metrics such as uptime, availability, utilization, mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and maintenance performance.
Vendor & Spare Parts Management: Manage equipment vendors and OSAT suppliers for tool upgrades, retrofits, and spare parts inventory to ensure zero production line stops due to tool hardware failures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with WLT Operations/Process Engineering, Quality, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, and external equipment suppliers to ensure successful equipment deployment and stable production execution.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, qualifying, and maintaining semiconductor wafer-level testing equipment.
Strong understanding of wafer probing, wafer handling, test interfaces, probe cards, handlers, and automated wafer-level test systems.
Strong experience in equipment troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, preventive maintenance, and corrective action.
Experience with equipment performance metrics, including uptime, utilization, MTBF, MTTR, and equipment capability.
Strong cross-functional communication and project management skills, with the ability to drive technical issues to closure across internal and external teams.
Experience working with semiconductor wafer fabs, OSATs, wafer-level test houses, equipment suppliers, or other external manufacturing partners is highly preferred.
Experience in photonics, silicon photonics, optical testing, or advanced semiconductor packaging is a strong advantage.
