Job summary

Google Singapore is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Technical Lead) for Consumer Payments to guide transformational, high-impact work across multiple markets. You will drive technical direction, architect scalable systems, and partner with product, UX, and cross-functional teams globally.

You will remain hands-on, contribute high-impact code, and mentor engineers while raising the bar for quality, security, and operational excellence in a fast-evolving payments platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience programming in Java, Go, C++, Python, or equivalent codebase.
• 8 years designing, building, and operating scalable backend distributed systems, microservices architectures, or high-throughput APIs.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy across multiple areas within consumer payments, prioritizing market-specific growth initiatives.
• Write scalable, maintainable code and design architecture for critical, high-ambiguity system components.
• Partner with Directors, PMs, UX, and TPMs across Singapore and global centers to drive consensus and align technical strategies.
• Advocate for AI-accelerated development workflows by defining team-wide policies for verification, security, and maintenance of AI-generated code.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight to multiple concurrent workstreams, mentoring senior engineers and setting high engineering standards.
