Job summary

GovTech is hiring a Staff/Principal Software Engineer to lead MOE engineering teams, building platform services and enabling value delivery at scale. You will champion platform thinking, developer experience, and modular tooling to empower product teams across the ministry.

You will set technical direction, establish standards, and guide cross-functional teams to deliver secure, observable, and scalable software systems in a cloud-native environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3-5 years in engineering leadership roles.
• Proven ability to lead teams, delivering large-scale, high-impact systems or platforms.
• Solid foundation in modern programming languages (Node.js, Go, Python) and frontend frameworks (React, Vue).
• Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS/Azure) and microservices.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD toolchains.
• Skilled at setting technical direction, driving engineering standards, and balancing delivery with quality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead platform teams and drive delivery of high-impact systems or platforms.
• Shape coherent developer experience across multiple platform teams from onboarding to deployment and observability.
• Ship platform tooling (CI/CD, service templates, observability) with self-service workflows and secure-by-default patterns.
• Set architecture direction, define standards and conventions, and encode them in tooling for coherence and speed.
• Lead through delivery, influence across autonomous teams, and mentor engineers to raise overall capability.
