Job summary

Stepan Company seeks a senior technical leader to drive innovation and customer-focused solutions across Asia Pacific. You will lead formulation development for consumer, home and personal care applications and partner with sales and regulatory teams to enable growth.

The role requires hands-on expertise in surfactants and a proven ability to translate research into actionable recommendations while navigating cross-cultural collaboration and international travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
• 3–5 years of formulation development, surfactants and consumer/personal care applications.
• Strong understanding of market trends and product commercialization strategies.
• Proven customer-facing experience with communication and stakeholder management.
• Experience in project leadership, DOE design, and data-driven problem solving.
• Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, ISO systems, and regulatory compliance.
• Willingness to travel internationally to support customer engagements and projects.
• Ability to work across cultures and functions while driving innovation.

Drive successful project execution, support commercial growth, strengthen customer partnerships, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Environment, Health, Safety & Compliance

• Champion EHS excellence by ensuring compliance with Stepan Corporate standards, local regulations, and industry best practices.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through active participation in safety, risk management, environmental, and waste reduction initiatives.
• Ensure all technical activities, operations, and assets are conducted in compliance with applicable safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.

Technical Leadership & Innovation

• Develop and execute technical strategies that support innovation, business growth, and successful project delivery across APAC.
• Independently lead and manage complex formulation and application development projects through established R&D processes.
• Translate experimental findings into actionable technical recommendations, customer solutions, and business opportunities.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies, methodologies, and testing protocols to improve product performance and operational efficiency.
• Monitor scientific literature, patents, competitive technologies, and market developments to identify emerging innovation opportunities and maintain technical leadership.

Product Development & Technical Expertise

• Serve as a subject matter expert in surfactants, consumer, skin, home and personal care's formulations, and application technologies across consumer and personal care market segments.
• Design and develop robust, high-performance formulations that meet customer, market, performance, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead formulation development and evaluation programs, including stability, compatibility, efficacy, and performance assessments.
• Provide technical guidance and support to cross-functional teams, contributing to product commercialization and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Partner closely with customers, sales, marketing, distributors, regulatory, and global R&D teams to develop value-added solutions and drive business growth.
• Identify new application opportunities, technology platforms, and customer innovation projects that support revenue growth and profitability.
• Deliver technical presentations, training programs, and application workshops for customers, distributors, and internal stakeholders across APAC.
• Support customer troubleshooting, application development, and commercialization activities through regular customer engagement and technical consultation.

Technical Thought Leadership & Market Influence

• Establish and strengthen recognition as a trusted technical expert and industry resource in consumer and personal care applications.
• Represent Stepan at industry conferences, trade shows, customer seminars, and technical forums to promote innovation, thought leadership, and market engagement.
• Mentor colleagues and share technical expertise to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Requirement :

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
• At least 3 to 5 years of extensive experience in formulation development, surfactants, and consumer/personal care applications.
• Strong understanding of market trends, customer needs, and product commercialization strategies.
• Proven customer-facing experience with excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in project leadership, experimental design (DOE), and data-driven problem solving.
• Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, ISO systems, and regulatory compliance requirements.
