Job Description

This position will be part of the Global Data office team and will report to the Sr Director Data Engineering for Bengaluru. The role is for a Senior Manager Data Engineering based in Bengaluru, India.

As a Senior Manager of Data Engineering, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and managing data-related products in collaboration with Visa's internal and external stakeholders. You will utilize your engineering and management skills, including strategic planning, business analysis, and technical expertise in data engineering and product management, to oversee the entire product lifecycle from inception to market launch and beyond. You will also lead a team of professionals to achieve these objectives.

Key Activities

1. Leadership and Management: Guide, support, and develop a team of data engineers. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation. Oversee project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure timely completion.
2. Data Strategy and Architecture: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement data engineering strategies aligned with business objectives. Design and establish scalable, reliable, and secure data pipelines and architectures. Ensure the quality, integrity, and governance of data across all platforms.
3. Platform Development: Lead the design, development, and deployment of Data Platforms. Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure the platform is scalable, secure, and high performing. Define and prioritize the product roadmap and backlog, aligning with strategic business goals.
4. Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Scala, Python, SQL, and PySpark. Experience with Unix/Linux systems and scripting in Bash. Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools like Airflow. Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases such as Postgres and Cassandra. Manage and communicate data warehouse plans to internal clients. Develop processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management. Employ modern data engineering tools and technologies, including SQL, Python, Spark, Kafka, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues while providing ongoing support.
5. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver insights. Clearly articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Promote data-driven decision-making across the organization.
6. Innovation and Best Practices: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data engineering. Champion the adoption of new tools and methodologies. Contribute to the broader data engineering community within Visa.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 12+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 5 years with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD), or 2 years with a PhD. Alternatively, 11+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 12+ years of work experience with a bachelor's degree, or at least 5+ years with an advanced degree, or 3+ years with a PhD.
• Proven leadership skills with experience leading a team of data engineers.
