JANUS et Cie, a luxury outdoor furniture company, is currently searching for a Sr, Design Engineer who bridges industrial design and mechanical engineering to translate design intent into production ready outdoor furniture solutions. The incumbent will be Responsible for engineering development, structural integrity, material selection, manufacturability, and simulation validation while preserving aesthetics, quality, and cost targets. This position is located in Singapore.
Job Responsibilities:
- Engineering Design & Development — Convert industrial design concepts into engineered CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings. Define tolerances, fits, and construction methods across materials including aluminium, stainless steel, teak, and composites.
- Structural Analysis & FEA Simulation — Perform FEA to evaluate structural performance including static loads, fatigue, and deformation. Validate models against physical testing and document results aligned with relevant standards (BIFMA, BSEN).
- Prototyping, Validation & DFM — Lead prototype development and testing cycles through to first article evaluation. Resolve technical issues and optimise designs for manufacturability, cost, and scalability.
- Supplier & Production Collaboration — Work closely with global vendors on feasibility, tooling, and production. Review factory submissions, support pilot runs, and troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation — Partner with Industrial Design, Product Management, QA, and Supply Chain across the product lifecycle. Maintain accurate BOMs, drawings, and ECOs within PLM system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 4 to 8 years of experience in product development, preferably in furniture or design led products
- Proficiency in CAD software (Rhino3D, SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Experience with FEA tools (e.g. Simscale, SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, Abaqus or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of materials, structures, and manufacturing processes
- Strong ability to bridge design intent with engineering practicality
- Analytical problem solving with simulation driven decision making
- Knowledge of DFM and DFA principles
- Must proficiently speak English and either Mandarin, Malay, or Tamil
- Ability to interpret and validate FEA results against real world testing
- Effective communication with cross functional teams and vendors
- Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines
