Overview

Saint Clare School for special Education, an Edutrust certified Private Educational Institution, is looking for Special Education teachers to provide assistance across the whole school in supervising and helping our students and help us with our vision to improve the quality of life for our students.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary function of a Special Education Co-Teacher is to work with the Lead Special Education Teacher in developing, implementing and monitoring the students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP), following the school’s curriculum framework and standards.

The Co-Teacher will communicate with the Lead Teacher on a regular, ongoing basis (i.e., before, during or after school hours) to discuss or address any issue when they arise, as well as to discuss the curriculum and planning in regular team meetings.

  • Utilizing a common approach to behaviour management, time management, classroom organization and appearance, planning, teaching, and monitoring learning
  • Creating and administering regular assessments including but not limited to observation recording tools, checklists, quizzes, etc.
  • Grouping students dynamically based on academic needs, as informed by assessment data
  • Writing detailed lesson reflections, progress reports and annual reports to communicate students’ progress to families
  • Using classroom and behavioural management strategies that are structured, consistent, respectful and responsive to student needs
  • Ensuring a safe physical and emotional environment for students through positive framing, kind communication with students and adults, predictability and consistent routines
  • Attending staff meetings or development sessions, and meeting (individually or with lead teacher) with the principal and assistant principal to monitor student progress, co-teaching and professional goals
  • Building a rapport and communicating with families through daily logs/progress reports, phone calls and meetings, as necessary
  • Attending and participating in all parent-teacher conferences during the year
  • Coordinating at least one school event, together with other staff
