Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled data protection (Backup and Recovery) Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability. This role requires expertise in various backup technologies and tools, as well as a strong understanding of data protection strategies across cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain data protection solutions using tools such as Commvault, PPDM, AWS backups, Azure backups.
- Automate backup and recovery processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Create self-service features for customers to manage their own backup and recovery tasks, improving user experience and operational efficiency.
- Manage and optimise backup processes, ensuring data is backed up according to established schedules and policies.
- Monitor and troubleshoot backup and recovery operations, addressing issues as they arise.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement data protection strategies.
- Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery processes to ensure effectiveness and reliability.
- Maintain documentation of backup configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to data protection and recovery.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Commvault Certified Professional) are a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 7-9 years of experience in backup and recovery engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience with backup solutions such as Commvault, PPDM, RMAN, BRTools, Cohesity, Rubrik, and others.
- Experience with automation tools, specifically Ansible Tower, for backup and recovery processes.
- Familiarity with Hyperscale 1.5 and Hyperscale X architectures.
- Experience with Data Protection as a Service (DPaaS) solutions.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS and Azure, for backup and recovery solutions.
- Experience with Dell Data Domain storage systems.
Skills
- Strong understanding of backup and recovery methodologies and best practices.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to enhance backup processes.
- Knowledge of storage technologies and architectures, including Dell Data Domain.
- Familiarity with self-service portal tools and frameworks for customer interaction.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Mandatory Skills
- In-depth knowledge of data protection regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Familiarity with cloud-based backup solutions and hybrid environments.
- Strong analytical skills to assess backup performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Experience with Dell Data Domain storage systems and hands-on Commvault, PPDM.
- Deeper understanding of operating systems (e.g., Windows server, RHEL).
- Familiarity with container based architectures and data protection solutions (eg., Kubernetes)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with enterprise-level backup and recovery solutions.
- Familiarity with virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Deeper understanding of operating systems (e.g., Windows server, RHEL).
- Understanding of network protocols and security measures related to data protection.
