Space Systems Engineer - Space Laser Communications

About the Role

The Space Systems Engineer at Transcelestial is responsible for the systems development for a novel, miniature space-based laser communication terminal. This position is part of the Space Team, led by Dr. Jan Smisek (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jan-smisek/). This position will also interact with the rest of the hardware, manufacturing and software design teams to assist with the overall development of the optical systems and new optical alignment technologies.

As a Space Systems Engineer, you will:
  • Take ownership over the systems development for a novel, miniature space-based laser communication terminal
  • Help define technical specifications, provide the team with orbital and mission analysis
  • Design and definition of architectures for the satellite and payload
  • Continuously provide analysis of the performance of the system in terms of pointing error budgets, power, communications capabilities, mass, etc.
  • Ownership of Assembly, Integration and Test plans and procedures. Participate in AIT activities.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders, maintain clear interfaces with all the elements of the mission

What you will bring:

  • Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of systems engineer experience, preferably in aerospace
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in an effective manner, while cooperating in a potentially international and culturally diverse team. Excellent technical communication, documentation and time management skills
  • Extensive knowledge of spacecraft subsystems as well as demonstrated ability to translate technical requirements into concrete engineering solutions
  • Experience with Mechanical design, Vibration Analysis, and Thermal Simulations

It is a bonus if you:

  • Hands-on experience in a satellite mission, ideally of the entire lifecycle of a spacecraft/instrument
  • Satellite or satellite optical payload assembly, integration and test experience.
  • Expertise in one of the following domains: AOCS/GNC, optics, mechanics, and or electronics design for: Space, Satellite Testing, Control Engineering, or Signal Processing
  • Knowledge of technical software and tools such as: STK, GMAT, SPENVIS, Matlab/Simulink, Solidworks, Zemax, LT Spice Python, Valispace
  • Experience in high growth / startup environments
