Job description

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from intraday coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.

We are looking for a Senior Editor to help elevate our Economy and Government coverage across South and Southeast Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

The successful candidate will have a track record of editing ambitious, award-worthy stories, from quickly turning around memorable enterprise and analysis off major breaking news to helming deeper investigative stories that can take weeks or months to report. You will have experience working across a range of platforms and formats, and constantly be looking for new and innovative ways to tell stories. You will also be expected to help out with daily coverage as needed.

The range of stories across a region with nearly a quarter of the world's people is seemingly endless. Working as part of the broader Economy and Government team, you will help chronicle India's rise as an economic power, rising tensions in the South China Sea and US-China competition in places like the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia, including the fallout from trade tensions as Donald Trump returns to power in the US. And you will also need to clearly make sense of power plays in a region rife with military coups and cut-throat politics.

You have a strong understanding of economics and politics and will think in terms of Economies, Policy and Power, following the money where it goes. You are also fully committed to breaking down false borders between economics and government coverage, and strengthening ties to other parts of the newsroom -- notably Markets, Commodities, Tech and Finance.

We'll trust you to:

  • Help reporters cultivate ideas and execute on major enterprise across South and Southeast Asia and Australia
  • Pitch in wherever needed as necessary, on stories big and small
  • Work closely with other platforms to elevate coverage, including graphics, Bloomberg Originals, podcasts, television, newsletters, etc.
  • Work seamlessly with managers and other editors to help elevate the coverage
  • Promote diversity of thought and representation throughout our coverage
  • Build influential relationships across the newsroom including markets, commodities, business, and finance to ensure our coverage captures the context of local developments and resonates globally and across all platforms

You’ll need to have:

  • At least 7 years of experience in business journalism
  • Experience working in a real-time news environment
  • Experience editing politics and/or economy stories
  • Ability to and make sound news decisions quickly
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • Ability to generate original story ideas and see them through
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organisation
  • Experience with features and story graphic
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Bachelor's degree or degree-equivalent qualifications
