Job summary

Sun Life Financial's Private Wealth unit in Singapore seeks a Solution Architect to lead IT architecture across projects, shaping cloud-native, API-driven solutions and AI/ML workloads.

You'll influence senior executives, drive agile DevOps, ensure security and regulatory compliance, and collaborate with regional teams to deliver scalable, data-driven platforms.

This role requires extensive insurance-IT experience and strong communication, with travel occasional to support regional programs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead IT architecture for projects and programs focusing on cloud-native, AI/ML, and data-driven solutions in insurance
• Drive the architecture lifecycle from conceptualization to execution using agile/DevOps
• Evaluate solutions for sustainability, scalability, and integration with existing systems
• Provide governance on architecture standards across the region (cloud, APIs, data-centric design)
• Define target-state AWS cloud architecture and related ML/GenAI components
• Identify and evaluate insurance solutions across underwriting, claims, CRM, workflow and payments
• Serve as architecture liaison between Private Wealth and IT Architecture team
• Present to senior executives on technology-driven transformation
• Collaborate with Product Owners and tech leads on reviews and patterns
• Influence senior executives on cross-functional architectural decisions
• Ensure compliance with security, risk, data privacy, and regulatory requirements

Job Summary The Solution Architect is accountable for leading the IT architecture across all projects and programs supporting the Private Wealth Business Unit, driving the entire solution architecture lifecycle from conceptualization to execution. This role leads regional transformation programs with a strong focus on agile and AgentOps practices, and shapes innovative business and IT solutions in the insurance domain, including new-age digital platforms, cloud-native applications, AI/ML, LLM-powered decision-making, and data-driven insights.

The ideal candidate will combine deep insurance domain knowledge with modern architecture expertise, disciplined technology governance, and the ability to influence senior executives across Asia business units and Corporate.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the IT architecture for all projects and programs, focusing on innovative business and IT solutions in the insurance domain such as new-age digital platforms, cloud-native applications, AI/ML, LLM-powered decision-making, and data-driven insights
• Drive the entire solution architecture lifecycle for regional transformation programs, from conceptualization through execution, applying agile and DevOps practices
• Evaluate proposed solutions to ensure a high degree of sustainability, scalability, and seamless integration with the existing application landscape, leveraging modern architectural patterns and emerging technologies
• Provide governance on solution architecture and technology standards across the region, with a focus on cloud, microservices, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and data-centric architectures
• Define and govern the target state cloud architecture on Amazon Web Services (AWS), designing containerized, serverless, and event-driven services as well as the machine learning and Generative AI platform components that underpin regional transformation programs
• Identify and evaluate industry-leading insurance solutions and emerging technologies that address business challenges across new business, underwriting, claims, document management, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), workflow, payments, and point-of-sale
• Serve as primary architecture liaison between the Private Wealth Business Unit and the Regional Office IT Architecture team, translating business objectives into target state architecture and roadmaps
• Conduct briefings and presentations to senior executives, both internally and externally, showcasing the value of technology-driven business transformation
• Partner with Product Owners, solution designers, and technical leads on design reviews, architecture walkthroughs, and integration patterns, resolving blockers to protect delivery timelines
• Influence senior executives (CxO level), functional heads, senior managers, and peers across Asia business units and Corporate on cross-functional matters, advocating for the adoption of innovative solutions
• Ensure architecture decisions comply with enterprise security, risk, data privacy, and regulatory requirements applicable in Singapore and across the region
• Lead cross-functional teams to resolve large, complex, and broad technical problems, working independently and driving outcomes to meet program objectives

Qualifications:

• Minimum Bachelor's degree, preferably with a Master's degree, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
• 15+ years of IT experience, including a minimum of 7+ years in the insurance industry with a focus on the application of emerging technologies
• Demonstrated expertise in developing cloud-native, microservices-based, and API-driven insurance solutions
• Hands on experience applying emerging technologies including AI/ML, Generative AI (GenAI), big data, and Internet of Things (IoT)
• Hands-on experience architecting and delivering solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS) is preferred, spanning cloud-native services such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), AWS Lambda, and AWS Step Functions, as well as Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock for machine learning and Generative AI workloads
• Thorough understanding of common patterns, frameworks, and reference architectures for the insurance domain, with a focus on digital transformation and innovation
• Proven experience leading regional transformation programs and driving the adoption of agile and DevOps practices
• Strong understanding of IT governance, risk, and compliance within the financial services or insurance industry
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex architecture concepts into business outcomes
• Experience influencing senior executives (CxO level) and collaborating with teams across geographies
• Self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision and drive outcomes
• Proactive approach to identifying and resolving architectural risks before they impact delivery
• Asia regional experience is an advantage
