Job summary

Zenika Singapore seeks a seasoned Python backend consultant to design and build robust, scalable systems. You’ll work with FastAPI/Django/Flask, embrace async patterns, and collaborate with client teams to shape architecture.

You’ll mentor juniors, advocate Python best practices, and help deliver cloud-native solutions with Docker and Kubernetes. This role emphasizes code craftsmanship, automated testing with PyTest, TDD, and living documentation.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience with a backend focus.
• Deep knowledge of Python internals and async programming.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful design, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience with tests and quality tooling (PyTest, Black, Ruff/Flake8).

Responsibilities

• Architect & Build: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance applications and microservices using modern Python frameworks.
• Asynchronous & Event-Driven Systems: Implement scalable concurrent patterns and integrate message brokers.

Your Role as a Zenika Consultant:

As a consultant, you’ll work on client engagements. You will design and build robust, scalable backend systems while collaborating closely with client engineering teams to:

• Architect & Build: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance applications and microservices using modern Python frameworks (FastAPI, Django, or Flask)
• Asynchronous & Event-Driven Systems: Implement scalable concurrency patterns and integrate message brokers for real-time data streaming.
• API Excellence: Design clean, contract-first APIs (REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC) that are a joy for frontend teams and external partners to consume.
• Data Strategy: Implement efficient data access layers and schema designs across relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL solutions.
• Engineering Standards: Apply solid engineering practices including automated testing (PyTest), TDD (Test Driven Development), rigorous code reviews, and living documentation.
• Cloud & Automation: Design and implement automated CI/CD pipelines and deploy cloud-native applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud providers (AWS/GCP/Azuure)
• Leadership: Participate in architectural discussions, advocate for Python best practices, and mentor junior engineers on client teams.

What You Bring

• Experience: 4+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on backend engineering.
• Python Mastery: Deep knowledge of Python internals, async programming (asyncio), and writing clean, idiomatic, "Pythonic" code.
• Architectural Depth: Solid understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful design, event-driven patterns, and distributed systems.
• Testing & Quality: A passion for software craftsmanship, clean code (SOLID, DRY), and writing robust test suites using tools like PyTest, Black, and Ruff/Flake8
• DevOps & Containerization: Hands-on experience with Docker and a "you build it, you run it" mentality toward cloud infrastructure and deployment.
• CI/CD: Experience designing, using, or optimizing automated delivery pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
• Consulting Mindset: Comfort working with diverse clients, explaining complex technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders, and adapting quickly to different team cultures.
