Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related discipline.
• Hands-on Java development in academic, personal, or internship projects.
• Basic Linux/Unix scripting for automation tasks.
• Basic SQL and relational databases are a plus.
• Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, HTTP, and Spring Boot is preferred.
• Python programming and exposure to FastAPI is beneficial.
• Understanding of AI concepts and retrieval-augmented generation is a plus.
• Familiarity with Git/GitLab and CI/CD processes is advantageous.

This internship is ideal for students who are interested in enterprise Java development, Shell scripting, RESTful services, Python-based AI solutions, Generative AI, and intelligent automation.

About The Role - You Will

• Develop, enhance, test, and maintain standalone Java applications supporting manufacturing and operational workflows.
• Assist in converting legacy application functions and interfaces into secure, maintainable RESTful web services.
• Develop Shell scripts to automate file movement, validation, logging, monitoring, alerting, archival, and housekeeping activities in Linux/Unix environments.
• Support MDW share housekeeping by designing reliable processes to move very large folders, including folders containing more than 10,000 files, from active MDW shares to archive MDW shares.
• Implement appropriate error handling, restartability, reconciliation, audit logging, and performance checks for large-volume file transfer processes.
• Build Python utilities and FastAPI-based services that can integrate with Java applications, automation workflows, or internal tools.
• Explore Generative AI and LLM-based use cases using frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph for knowledge retrieval, log analysis, troubleshooting assistance, and workflow automation.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, infrastructure teams, and subject matter experts to gather requirements and deliver practical solutions.
• Perform unit testing, troubleshooting, technical documentation, source-code management, and deployment support.

About You

• Strong foundation in Java programming, object-oriented programming, collections, exception handling, file I/O, and multithreading concepts.
• Good Shell scripting skills and confidence working with Linux/Unix commands, filesystems, permissions, processes, cron, SSH/SFTP, and large file sets.
• Interest in learning enterprise manufacturing applications, system integration, automation, and production support practices.
• Analytical and methodical problem-solving approach, with attention to data integrity, operational safety, and error recovery.
• Highly independent and able to work with guidance from mentors while taking ownership of assigned deliverables.
• Adaptable, proactive, and comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document designs, test results, and operating instructions.

Your Experience Includes

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related discipline.
• Java development, including hands-on academic, personal, or internship projects.
• Linux/Unix and Shell scripting for automation and file-processing tasks.
• Basic SQL and relational database concepts; exposure to Oracle or PostgreSQL is an advantage.
• Understanding REST APIs, JSON, HTTP methods, API authentication, and web service integration; Spring Boot exposure is preferred.
• Python programming and exposure to FastAPI for building lightweight APIs or backend services.
• Basic understanding of AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, Large Language Models, embeddings, vector databases, prompt engineering, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
• Exposure to AI application frameworks and tools such as LangChain, LangGraph, Chainlit, OpenAI-compatible APIs, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with Git/GitLab, code reviews, CI/CD, Agile development, Docker, or Kubernetes is an advantage.
• Experience handling large numbers of files, batch processing, data archival, checksums, rsync, or parallel file-transfer techniques is an advantage.
• Commitment to responsible AI practices, including data privacy, secure handling of enterprise information, output validation, and human review.

Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations. Spread over three sites, it is easily accessible via bus or from the MRT Station, with many employees taking mass transportation to work.
